Yeah I understand what you’re saying. For Leddy, he’s been bad under 3 coaches/schemes over last 2 seasons. He’s had poor analytics on all 3 teams. I don’t think a smaller role would change Baileys analytics, it would help the islanders because the less time he’s on the ice the better. He played on every line in the top 9 this season and he was equally as bad on all of them

It’s not fair of me to ask u to explain this, but I’m genuinely curious if u can see that kind of stuff with analytics cause I can’t pay for a platform. Student loans suck man lol.

I get that, but I wasn’t sure if switching out Chara and Greene for better d man and changing the scheme would help at all. I dont know how to tell if a player is unfixable you know? Cause I thought Trotz made a lot of poor decisions with his lineup and scheme in the past couple years.

I get what ur saying there, but how do they actually isolate impact? Cause I was wondering if a guys usage can impact his numbers. Like Bailey is a bad transition defender, but if he’s usually deep in the zone when a turnover happens isn’t it gonna be harder for him to get back? How do u calculate something like that?

I’m pretty sure there are free write ups on google that show how Analytics can isolate a players impact .

I agree with that, Trotz definitely played a role, but Pulock and Dobson played with Chara but the analytics still showed that Pulock and Dobson were strong offensive drivers at 5v5.

No ur fine man. I think I come off as confrontational and with the exception of my interactions with Leafs fans, I don’t mean to be.

I’m being serious, if what you’re asking is to see a players analytics I don’t mind posting them on here as a screenshot

Yeah I’m more of a visual guy with hockey tbh. I look at Leddy and I’m wired to say even when they don’t capitalize on his rushes at least the puck is on the other end of the ice. So I’m just wondering if you know how they isolate a players impact. Like even if u could just send an article.

I’m more interested in why a players metrics look that way, and idk that you can see that on a player card or a graph. It’s a weird question and I haven’t been super clear about it

The issue is Leddy doesn’t actually set up scoring chances lol. He skates the puck up the ice and gives it back to the other team.

I’m gonna do a deep dive on this. Because I completely understand your criticism of him, but I wasn’t sure how much of that was about how he enters the zone and with who. Sometimes it feels like guys enter the zone but have no help to do so, which may lead to a turnover.

Is this the guy who said Panik was the better player? Not that it matters.

I switched to evolving hockey to evaluate some of it. I think the big thing I took away from it was the part about playing tempo and Bailey. I couldn’t figure out how to see his metrics with Palmieri and Pageau but I think that’s just cause I’m not paying for it.

Btw what you sent did help a lot. I think I have a better understanding of how it works, but I’m gonna be double checking the glossary and the average metrics for each player for at least a week. I think the articles written by the analytics websites did a good job explaining the limitations which I appreciated.

Panik was* better than Leddy at the time the two were traded. Leddys reputation and skating ability is the only reason he’s in the NHL right now. Reputation especially , that can extend a players career by 5 years. Look at guys like Gudbrandson, jay beagle, Hamonic,

Yeah there’s not a platform that is 100% accurate , but it’s the best measure we have at evaluating players.

Isles decline the OTT and MIN deals easily. TOR probably declines though the value isnt terrible and ARI easily declines

The impact of TOI and creating opportunities was interesting to me. Correct me if I’m wrong but the way I read it was if you play a lot for a low scoring team it’s gonna hurt ur metrics. How would that impact Bailey? Would the model just say Bailey is the reason they don’t score or is the scheme taken into account?

I’m also curious about the zone entry/exit statistics and how much of an exit/entry being under control is dependent on ur teammates. Because in theory Leddy could start in his own zone, break it out, and then still be on the ice for a winger to turn the puck over and go the other way. This isn’t me defending him at all, but how can the model determine the impact of shots for/against if ur both breaking the puck out and then ur teammate turns it over? Would seem relevant to the goal he was out for after his 3 minute shift.

Btw none of this is me arguing. I’m just confused by how the model compensates for certain situations/schemes.

Sens gotta say yes to that, hopefully their 2nd round pick is more in the 40-45 range than the 33-40 range next year, and the Leafs are the Leafs, so moving up from 40th overall to 16-20th overall to take on a decent player on a short, bad contract would be an absolute win
