Description
Most ppl I see that do Calgary automatically assume Johnny is for sure signing in Philly. Although I agree, I think Calgary have a good roster and with proper cap management can be cup contenders. With that being said, Gaudreau resigning isn’t out of the realm of realism and I think it’s 50/50 that he comes back.

your giving up much more to move Lucic snd Monahan. both contracts need to move or you don’t sign Gaudreau and teams know this and know your going to be desperate.

Fair enough. Monahan has the capabilities to have a good bounce back season with a team like Buffalo so I think a second and a prospect could be about fair. As for lucic I think u may be right. Maybe a first or 2 seconds for lucic tbh

      Sabres say maybe
I can’t see us wanting Monahan, but maybe the 2nd & prospect are enough to get us to take him?

So basically the plan is, ditch your two worst contracts, replace your 4th line wingers, and run it back?

I mean sure. I suppose. That's something all right. It's not even a bad strategy it's just so like. Idk. Average....

Monahan has already been reported to be oh pretty high interest. It definitely won't cost that much to move him, he actually probably returns slightly positive value assuming he is healthy. Lucic should not cost more than a 2nd to move

Tbf I wasn’t trying to go absolutely crazy, I’m not a flames fan and ironically they’re one of my least favorite teams so I didn’t want to attack their fan base by doing radical changes. But I’m smart enough to know whats best for them this off season lol

I wish it was that easy but in a flat cap world any contract even psuedo-bad is gonna take a bit to trade away. We’ve seen quite a few trades where teams have had to trade away multiple seconds minimum to trade away contracts that didn’t seem too horrible on paper.

I mean Sabres are the team with the most cap space going into free agency and they need to reach the cap floor. They already had to make the boychuck trade to accommodate for their lack of spending. Plus at the minimum monahan has the possibility to actually make an impact and resurrection his career.

Lucic yes, but Monahan I disagree with. Teams skipped out on Tarasenko last year because injuries hurt his numbers and teams generally don't make the same mistake twice. Also Keith and Risto got very good returns considering they are roughly the same caliber players

There’s plenty of ways to get to the Cap floor, including the starting goalie we’re likely to go after in free agency

And our forwards are pretty much set for next year already
It’s a matter of whether or not we think the extra incentive to take on Monahan is worth holding back 1 of our young guys or not

Yan is a interesting prospect, big boy, but he plays a side we are pretty loaded on, got any decent RD prospects

It would not be the same mistake even if Monahan returns to form. Surgeries on both hips is a pretty significant and he has been overpaid for the last 3 years. Tarasenko was only overpaid for 2 and it was a shoulder injury. Not that close.

Monahan was not "overpaid" 2 years ago, where did you get that conclusion from? He paced 56 points in 19/20 which is right around his career average (slightly under if you want to nitpick). Is a 55-65 point pace not pretty standard for a center of that contract range? Brayden Schenn, Sam Reinhart, Nico Hischier, Dylan Larkin, William Karlsson, Bo Horvat, etc. Only exceptions arpund there are MacKinnon and Scheifele, but its a pretty fair argument that they are underpaid.

How is a hip surgery not as significant as a shoulder surgery? Both are major body limbs.
