Most I'd give Forsberg on a 1 year deal would be 11 mil. 13+ for a multi-year contract is baffling. 4 years of Forsberg is gonna be around 9-9.5 mil a season

With this contract, forsberg makes 54.4 million + at lease 3 mil/year for 3 years after wherever he signs = 63.4mil; compared to a 7x8.5 mil contract = 59.5 mil

I dont think you understand. In the next 7 years, with this contract with Buffalo, he will make AT LEAST 63.4 mil. All he has to ask himself is "When I am 30, will I be worth at least 3 mil/year?" Which of course he will be. He may even still be worth 6-7. This would mean he could make a total of 75.4 mil instead of your 63. He's betting on himself, giving himself freedom to choose a new team to make a cup run in 4 years, and gets hella money in the bank rn.
