The counter to this would be something along the lines of:
MTL: 1OA
NJ: Tatar, Bahl, Zacha, Colton White, 2023 top 5 protected, 2023 2nd.

Devils counter with Tatar, Foote, Walsh, Smith, pick 37, and a top 5 protected 23 first

If someone were to offer me that package for the second overall pick, I’d just throw in Zacha, Tatar, Johnsson and a second rounder for first overall

the deal is horrible for the devils. At best it has to start with Calgary's first and mtl first unprotected, the change that its a top 5 pick is the only reason the devils consider, protecting that pick strips it of its main value. Either way mtl is not going to move into the top 5, if anything they may find a way to move up from the Calgary pick.

Yeah some how a bunch of scraps isn't getting you the 2nd overall pick, Obviously needs to be far better than that offer by a country mile.
