At 2M and playing RD, leafs would do the exact same instead of a 1st. The only issue with Sandin on the leafs is potentially being blocked by Mo Muzz and Gio but he ends up in the same situation here, playing RD

Leafs still don't hand you sandin for a late 1st. They can move holl tomorrow if they want, and get the space for a 2m sandin

Why? Someone has to play D, especially on cheap contracts. There's other pieces they would move for cap space before moving sandin if he's making 2m

You're definitely doing the first part of that word.

Only way the Leafs trade Sandin is for a player who helps them reconfigure the team and make them better. Giving him up for a back of the round first round pick is nonsensical and wouldn't happen. They have lots of cap space for him.

Ya it’s not as big of an issue as you think just because they are the leafs.

So leafs give up on sandin to save maybe 1mm in cap space and get who exactly to play for 750k while still competing .... there's better ways to save 1mm in cap space than giving up on a promising 22 year old D man with control.

The trade doesn't make sense. The only reasoning you have is oh leafs need cap space, without realizing the sweetheart discounts you've given your own team to barely fit under the cap.

If you listened to everyone the leafs are trading according to the media, the leafs wouldn't have a team to ice, and nylander would be playing for half the league

If they move Girard (or EJ) I think it’s pretty much a certainty that Manson is brought back.

Ottawa declines, Kaut doesn't have much value left as his development has stalled and Brown is a really good top six forward that Ottawa benifits more from either keeping or trading. Formenton is a top six winger and all of them along with the early 2nd will trump a small defenceman that Ottawa is not in need of because he is a LD and a middling prospect.

Ottawa declines.

Like Girard, but I think Ottawa will be looking for a bigger DFD to play the right side. I'm open to trading either Formenton or Brown this summer to get that, but the value here is so bad for Ottawa. Girard isn't worth Formenton, Brown and a 2nd. Kaut is worth next to nothing imo

Kaut's value is low and Girard, while absolutely being a good player, doesn't fit a need for the Sens at all. The last thing that they need is a small, puck moving LHD.

I think that the plan is for JBD to fully develop and take Hamonics spot in the top four. What I could see the defense pairings be for the next few years would be:

2022-23

Chabot - Zub
Brannstrom - Hamonic
Sanderson - ???/JBD

2023-24

Chabot - Zub
Sanderson - JBD
Kleven - Brannstrom

though possibly another depth defenseman on the third pairing.
