Why would the Leafs spend draft capital on a 4th liner? Matt Martin level players can be found in abundance on July 1st

Beauviller has very little value to Arizona. Replace him with Raty and Wahlstrom and Arizona may accept

Also 7 years is the maximum term you can offer Forsberg

He has the connection there from playing there and marner needing the confidence boost. Him and marty are VERY close.

Why would Marner need a confidence boost though? He caught fire after the all-star break and was finally playing like the dual-threat winger his contract was demanding. Little to no point in acquiring Martin when you have Robertson and Joey Anderson knocking on the door for a roster spot next season

Taking on 2 years of a player the Sabres don't need who will also take up a top 9 spot from a younger player isn't considerations, no reason for the Sabres to make that trade. Future considerations typically involve some future swap of late round picks or something negligible.

A few years ago Josh Bailey would have been the player the Sabres would have wanted. They really don’t need him now or have room on the roster to accommodate him. They have two wing positions being filled by Quinn and Peterka this coming season, and unless they move someone out they don’t have room for another one.
