Move his contract? Why? He’s worth every penny, plays anywhere for us, leadership, grit… he certainly isn’t a dump like you suggest

The problem the Rangers (full disclosure, my 2nd fav team after the Stars) are going to run up against this summer is the salary cap. Moving Nemeth and probably another good sized multi-year contract (Goodrow is the most obvious option since everyone else is either better or has a way bigger contract) is the only way I can really make the math work with realistic contracts for FA's. With 5 years left and a lot of teams running into cap issues trying to re-sign their own FA's, NY probably does have to pay to move Goodrow since Chytil, Miller, and Lafreniere are RFA's in 2023.

Goodrow signed last season. Drury is a new GM. Trading him would prevent him from ever signing a free agent again. The Rangers are going to just not be able to sign a mix of Laf, Chytil, Schneider, Robertson, Strome, Vatrano, Copp and more. Goodrow is not getting moved for a least 2 more years. I promise you that. Only way is if he wants out, and it seems like he is vital to this lockeroom and lineup.

      Nemeth has a NMC.

Your math is the problem. Goodrow is worth every penny and trading him is penny wise and pound foolish.

So how does the math work then, to stay under $82.5M while re-signing everyone that they need to this summer and next? Who are the two players with decent sized contracts that get moved? Nemeth and...?

First off, who says they are re-signing everyone? They probably won't. Second, the cost of who they do sign in an unknown, so until they start locking up players after the season ends, it's all just a wild guess. But the fact remains that Goodrow is worth what he is paid for all he brings to the table and moving him is not the answer. It makes the team worse. He plays C, Wing and can play up in the line-up if needed, kills penalties, plays physical and will stand up when needed. Guys like him are hard to find. If you guess at what Copp, Motte and Kakko may sign for, then they can afford all three and Strome will be gone. Vatrano is a wildcard, depending on how much he wants. If its too much, he won't be signed and Laffy can move to RW with Mika and Kreids. It will all work out.

Edmonton declines. Keith has been better than expected and McLeod has taken a huge step this postseason, he's not available.
