An Absurd Daydream

Created by: Viqsi

Initial Creation Date: Jun. 8, 2022

Description
Obviously the trade only has any possibility whatsoever of going through only if Bergeron retires, and it's probably a silly pipe dream even then. But a girl can dream, right? Right? :)

Carlsson and Stenlund walk. Everyone else stays.

McAvoy is good but this feels like an overpay, those are 2 high picks and a dman taken 8th overall 3 years ago.

6OA, 12OA, Boqvist for McAvoy.. hmm… if Boston is for some reason rebuilding for a long time, they would have to at least think about it! They would get two great picks, and a good defence man. Boston could get their 1c with the 6OA.. one of Savoie, or Geekie probably. I don’t mind this trade honestly.

CBJ would still need to add. He hasn't even hit his prime and he's locked up for 8 years.

That being said, Boston does not even consider the idea of trading McAvoy. He is as untouchable as anyone in the league.

Really? More to add… I wasn’t sure if this was enough, but how much more are we talking about? McAvoy is very good, but in a full rebuild, if a team offers this, they have to at least think about it. I don’t mind it, IF they enter a rebuild, they are getting their 1RHD, 1C, and possibly a top 6 forward, or a top 4 defence man. Savoie could definitely be a 1c in the future, and Boqvist would be their 1RHD in the future, as he would probably get better than Carlo.

They just signed him to an eight-year deal and he's part of the next core. He'll still be elite by the time the Bruins compete for the Cup again. Also, CBJ wouldn't offer it.

I absolutely agree, but If you are entering a rebuild for some unknown reason, and Columbus offers this, you could think they would think about doing it. McAvoy is good, but this is a decent offer for Boston. People can’t say he is worth much more than this… this is 2 firsts, and a former first. They should not trade him, but they at least think about this one in my opinion.….

It's not happening so I don't need to think about it and top3 Ds are really rare to find.

Alright, sure. I agree that top 5 defence men are hard to find, but all I’m saying is that it’s not a bad offer. Have a good one!

Jackets would never offer this. I think the bruins would be dumb not to take it though. Ship out Pasta and Mcavoy and you speed up the rebuild by like 2-3 years. Especially if they land bedard

He's much more than merely "good". It's possibly close to appropriate value if and only if Boston is at all willing to trade him. That they're almost certainly not (he's already among the best in the league and he's only 24) is what makes this an "absurd daydream", as I put it.

But that doesn't stop me from wanting it OH SO BADLY. wink

We can get away with offering it because our prospect pool is in much better shape, and getting McAvoy pretty much instantly solves the RD question for us for the next decade or so.

I've been kind of assuming Boston would have a longer bounceback timetable - mostly becuase I don't see any plausible candidates for replacing Krejci, let alone Bergeron (note that I acknowledged earlier this only has a chance if Bergy retires). So frankly I got the impression that by the time the Bruins are contending again, McAvoy would be in his 30s. That doesn't mean he absolutely should be moved - indeed, you need to have some guys to rely on while the new kids come in - but it does mean he's going to be on the tail end of his career, assuming all goes well.

That said, I totally get why the answer to any trade of him is a flat out "no". It's likely how I'd answer if I was in that position.

I mean I guess it makes sense if you're CBJ and you have to trade for guys on long term deals if you want them to stay ;P

Looks like somebody's feeling deeply offended and feeling the need to attempt to share that wealth.
