Description
At the end of the day the first two trades is basically a Tkachuk for Pastrnak swap. With Pasta making ~3m less this upcoming season, it’s an extremely big help making the rest of the moves fit under the cap.

The Chychrun addition solidifies the flames D and allows Hanafin to drop back down with Tanev.

Signing Kadri gives the Flames much needed center depth and pushes Backlund down to 3C where he would be much more effective. There’s proven interest in Kadri from the Flames in the failed Brodie trade and before anyone jumps at Kadri nixing the trade, it was originally because he wanted to stay in Toronto. I believe he’s be much more willing to come to Calgary now.

On value, the Blues definitely consider this and probably even take it. The problem is, they don't have the cap to do this at this time.

Swapping Tkachuk for Pastrnak is the definition of looking for greener grass. It really doesn't make any sense, especially since Chucky will probably be named captain and Pasta is a pending UFA that we would have to negotiate an extension with. I also don't think that is nearly a good enough return from St. Louis.

Kadri isn't signing for less than 8M and he already nixed a trade to Calgary once so I doubt he would sign with the Flames now. I would rather just bank on Monahan coming back healthy the same way Tarasenko did.

Chychrun offer is probably decent value wise but Arizona would likely prefer more futures than current NHL players

This is a 20 man roster with no cap space, you will need at least 22 players

Yeah, but I think that if you make this trade a 3-way with a team that is ready to take on Scandella's contract and Calgary giving them a late maybe we can manage something by doing other trades.

Okay well, then we'd be short two LDs, and that's the position of real need. I think we have to hope he makes it to UFA.

Ok value is there for the Matty T trade and blues would be hard pressed not to take it it.
But I think that maybe swapping in VT for neighbours and taking the second out would be better as then the blues have the cap to resign Matty T

I’m half expecting them to still end up trading Tarasenko this off-season, which would eliminate of any cap issues.

It makes sense because pasta can actually drive the play and keep up with Johnny unlike Tkachuk.

Tkachuk can drive the play, players who are passengers never hit 100 points regardless of who they play with. Pasta may be faster but is strictly worse defensively

If you think the only reason he nixed the trade was to just stay in Toronto you are lying to yourself. That was a PR statement to not look as bad. He certainly did not want to play in Calgary and definitely wont take a discount to be a Flame now
