CYA later Hanifin

It's a poor trade for the Flames , for one year of Nylander.
And the Leafs aren't going to have a meeting to with Nylander asking/telling him "We want your ass outta town, so hurry up and sign a contract so we can trade you to Calgary. But if you don't sign an extension you are welcome back and play for the Leafs for a Cup run,"</div></div>
Hanifin has nothing to do with this trade.
It’s not for 1 year of Nylander. The extension isn’t signed by the leafs. It’s agreed to with the flames but not made official until after the draft.

What in your opinion is bad about this trade? Leafs get a top 4 RD; which they lack, a top 6 winger, prospect and pick for a player they may not be able to re-sign

Calgary needs to get faster, that’s why they do it.

Why’s that? Toffoli had more points last season and Ottawa isn’t exactly in the drivers seat with him requesting to be traded.

You’re over the cap and still short a player. Not to mention the 4+ players who will need fairly significant raises the following year.

Huge Moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Swapping Tkachuk for Pastrnak is the definition of looking for greener grass. It really doesn't make any sense, especially since Chucky will probably be named captain and Pasta is a pending UFA that we would have to negotiate an extension with. I also don't think that is nearly a good enough return from St. Louis. </div></div>
It makes sense because pasta can actually drive the play and keep up with Johnny unlike Tkachuk.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>
Kadri isn't signing for less than 8M and he already nixed a trade to Calgary once so I doubt he would sign with the Flames now. I would rather just bank on Monahan coming back healthy the same way Tarasenko did.</div></div>
Thanks for reading the description

I’m half expecting them to still end up trading Tarasenko this off-season, which would eliminate of any cap issues.

Could very well be the case with Forsberg, who knows how unhappy he truly is after they traded away Arvidsson.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>You mean if they can't sign Holtby? And if Samsonov is healthy after missing the playoffs with an undisclosed injury? And if the half dozen proven starting goalies whose teams are letting them test the free agent market don't call Washington first, and get in a negative bidding war?
Rittich is a very good goalie. In a normal year, you could get a 2nd round pick for him. But look at all the UFA goalies out there this year.
If there's a Rittich to WSH deal, the return is likely Panik.
If the goal is to trade him for a pick and cap space, there's a Buffalo fan who wants that deal, but also thinks the team will find a spot to move Hutton's contract.</div></div>
Yeah it’s looking likely that Holtby doesn’t stay in washington(and in this suggestion I have Holtby signing in Calgary anyway)
All injuries were unspecified this playoffs because of Covid if I recall correctly. Just ‘unfit to play’. I can’t see washington wanting to sign any high profile UFA goalie and having faith in Samsonov goin forward. Getting a solid 1B like Rittich on a short term deal would solidify their goaltending position.
I would think Calgary is likely to trade Rittich for cap spce(if they do trade him) so that’s why I said for the 4th. Could they get a better pick? Maybe. Who knows.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>flamesfan</b></div><div>Take out mangiapane and it’s close, oels contract is worse than lucics contract</div></div>
If the coyotes are to take lucic’s contract than we can easily afford OEL. It’s a price to pay to get rid of Lucic and strengthen our Defence. Plus it opens up a spot in our top 6 to sign Hall.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Let's assume for the sake of argument that Mangiapane is adequate compensation for assuming the grotesque burden of Milan Lucic and his contract. That leaves Hanifin and the first. You'll have a tough time convincing me that they're enough to get you Ekman-Larsson.</div></div>
Like Ledge_And_Dairy mentioned Lucic hasn’t been terrible, he’s a fairly solid 3rd liner who’s just overpaid. I do think That’s a good price to pay for OEL, they get a good top 4 dman at a low cost and ditch OEL’s contract. Plus I think they’re pretty desperate to add a 1st round pick.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>Rittich for a 4th? That's gonna have takers.</div></div>
Why not? He’s a solid 1B option for the Caps who’s can easily afford it with Holtby gone and it takes some pressure off of Samsonov.
