I can see Keith retiring because even though his cap hit is $5.5 his next year's pay check is only $1.5 million.

Smith I doubt retires, he'll need that $2.5 million pay check for his post hockey career.

As Keith will probably be handed an office job by the Hawks very quickly. Smith will probably have to wait a few years to get an office job.

So what happens next year? Trade a top 6 guy to get under 82.5?

Too much for husso, he’s worth like 3.5 million you’d save about a million in cap. So that would bring you to 3 million in cap

Cap goes up 2-3 mil next year, and the oilers have 2 mil in dead cap coming off the books

If Keith retires you get an extra $3.4M in cap, bringing the Oilers’ salary cap for the year to $85,900,000 not $87,900,000

Would it not?

You’re still under the cap if that is the case, though. I’m just nitpicking for OCD purposes lol

Honestly solid roster and as much as I like Keith for kulak money wise ya hope Keith retires. Great career though. Only thing I would say is don’t trade foegle. Now you’re paying more for Aston-Reese and I’d say foegle is the better player. I think you have to choose though between smith and kane don’t think you can have both

In regards to the trades and team itself.

The trades aren’t bad. I did see a rumour that Seattle would be interested in Barrie should he be available. Also pretty fair price to dump Kassian/acquire Soucy, IMO.

I’m not sure if Foegele would get a 4th, but he would definitely have positive value throughout the league somewhere. So that one is pretty good as well.

I’m pretty sure I heard that Kane is looking for $7M in Edmonton and $8M+ anywhere else. $6.5M wouldn’t be out of the question, but I don’t know if it’s enough for him considering rumours about him.

I think Smith comes cheaper than that, tbh. Maybe $4M - $4.5M. I’m not 100% sure though, he’s a tough one to judge.

I think Yamamoto is going to get more $$ and term. Holland seems to be set on him.

I also think Puljujarvi gets more $$ and term, but not in Edmonton unfortunately. He seems to have fallen out of favour with Holland.

I also think that’s too much for Husso. Maybe $4.5 for 1 year as a prove yourself type things before a longer contract. I’m not sure lol

I also think that’s wayy too much for Aston-Reece. He was used as a cap dump in the Rakell trade. Not saying he was a cap dump or doesn’t have value, but that is how he was valued at the TDL. My guess would be anywhere from $1.25M - $1.75M.

Thanks for coming to my TedTalk lmao

Puljujarvi hasn't proved much so this is a good 'show me deal'. If he wants more trade his rights.

Yeah it might be steep but Husso will likely take the most he can get and hes a good bet as he's showed signs of being an elite goaltender.

Yeah the thing is with free agency though most players chase the bag and will try to get as much as they can. Smith is for sure only worth 4.5M at the most but teams will want his offensive presence in the Top9.

Puljujarvi I can also agree with. He's either going to stay for another year to prove himself, bt if that's not the case we trade his rights for something we need.

Kane will get aroud 6.5-7M but if 7M was his asking price I think you could lower it down a bit.

The ZAR and Husso signings will honestly be around there. Free agents love chasing the bag and I'm sure Holland would overpay a couple of guys since EDM isn't the biggest market.

The man's made a hair less than $50M USD, he shouldn't need anything for his post-playing career.

I doubt Keith retires because he's said he wants to play beyond this contract. I would fully expect Smith to retire in the coming weeks.

True, but Smith's last 5 seasons were spent in Canada, meaning he probably only made 1/5th the paycheck, thanks to our great taxman here.

He's paid in American dollars, after the conversion he can probably afford to buy the entire town of Marengo, SK thrice over.
