Description
I know people are weary of Salo on the 2nd pair. His skillset however translates to an NHL 2nd pair D. This is much different scenario than playing with LaDue in Bridgeport, Mayfield on the top pair during a covid outbreak or with Greene on his offside. Pelech, Dobson and Pulock getting 20+ min a night initially would take the edge off Salo early on anyways. Zadorov, assuming he doesn't take a mountain of penalties like back in Calgary, would be a decent starting partner for Addison's NHL development. Not to mention the size and physically Zadorov brings would take the edge off Addison.

Minn will definitely get better offers.

Ideally Salo play 3rd pair this year with Mayfield and helps bring more offense from the 3rd pair and Bolduc is ready the following year. Then you can have 3 well balanced pairs:

Pelech-Pulock- Continue to be one of the NHL's best pair
Bolduc-Dobson- Bolduc can help cover defensively to let Dobson roam more
Salo-Mayfield- Salo helps bring offense to the 3rd pair while Mayfield continues strong defensive play.

PP1- Dobson
PP2- Salo/ Pulock

PK1- Pelech- Pulock
PK2- Bolduc- Mayfield

See regarding Minnesota, I disagree because DeBrincat is going to get the bulk of trade offers out there which can be seen as a diversion. I also think Bolduc is at least 2 more years away. If you're Minnesota, this would be a kickass D core

Middleton - Spurgeon
Brodin - Dumba
Merrill - Mayfield
Goligoski

I do think they're going to move Kulikov. There's just no room for Addison. A shame he'd have to shave his signature stache.

the problem with Bolduc is he's not really good defensively. Dobson is much better in his own end

Regardless of Value Fiala gets paid more than 7.2 in my opinion. I think the issue for Minn is while mayfield is solid he is a ufa next season. They definitely wont have the money to sign him after the season so now the price for all that they got back for fiala and addison is most likely two late ish 2nds a 3rd and Holmstrom. The wild just cant trade for win now pieces with the cap crunch while also trading away one of their best forwards. It just doesnt make sense to pretend it isnt a step backwards.

The mindset behind this trade is tri-fold.

1. Gives them cap space to re-sign Middleton and Fleury and incorporate Rossi into their lineup.
2. Also fixes their dreadful PK
3. Gives them an internal option incase Dumba's pricetag is too high. Holmstrom would also be in the lineup as well on an ELC so he can also provide a much-needed boost on their PK. Furthermore offseason trades are usually less than deadline trades.(Toews, Buch, Reinhart, Arvidsson)
