Trades
MIN
  1. 2022 1st round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
The Wild have never had a long-term top line center, acquiring this pick gives them the best chance they've ever had to get one by selecting Logan Cooley.
NJD
  1. Addison, Calen
  2. Fiala, Kevin [RFA Rights]
  3. 2022 1st round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
More than I'd like to give up, but probably around what it would take for 2 OA.

I'm quite obviously not the Devils GM, but I don't think the Devils would be interested in Addison. They want more experience and - for some reason - more size on our blueline (despite being absolutely massive already)

The only something in a Fiala + something for 2OA trade that I would image the Devils are interested in is Wallstedt, who is almost certainly not remotely on the table.

Why go Cooley? Just take Wright.

MTL is inevitably going to take Slafkovsky after all awesome face

Addison is a really good prospect so I think they would take him tbh. Is he gonna move the needle for NJD? No probably not but if he’s a top four d man this trade offer isn’t bad…

I like Addison quite a lot. But I'm not the GM of the Devils and we know the type of defenseman Fitz wants. It's not Addison.

I don’t disagree at all! Honestly if I ran the NJD I would probably take Nemec at 2 if I don’t take Cooley.

Honestly I like Cooley more than Wright so even if we had the choice between Wright and Cooley I'd still take Cooley

I know it's not a popular opinion but I think Cooley's ceiling is way higher than Wright's and with where our team is at (and considering the assets we'd have to give up to be in a position to consider either) I'd rather take the swing on the high ceiling player than the safe bet. Wright should be a really good player, maybe 60ish point guy that's a Selke contender while Cooley could be more of a 70 point player with a chance for more if given the right linemates.

Based on value, the devils take this all day. I get it’s the number two pick, but not all number two picks are made equal. The second part of this is is, what type of deal does Fiala get? If he commands north of 7M, I’d pass. Addison is a nice prospect, can never have too many of those.

That sounds...disappointing honestly.

Not much top heavy prospects this time around it seems.

If this got 2OA I'd do it. Fiala will be moved, Addison is probably stuck in a 3rd pair role and who knows if a 24OA will pan out.

A question.

If Devils isn't interested in Addison, how about making it a 3-way with getting Stars involved? Because they'd certainly be interested in Addison.

We can give you a good prospect here in his place, such as Dellandrea. Maybe more than that.

I’m of the opinion that 5 years from now we’re gonna look back at this draft class, and if given the choice between Wright vs the field, Cooley vs the field, Slaf vs field, you’re gonna chose the field. Could be wrong, but it seems like a lot of value is gonna slip down the draft.

Id rather have a couple cracks at it, even if that means lower picks. Heck guys like Yurov and Trikozov may fall into the 20s, just due to being Russian.

Move Fiala straight up for futures, so we have 2 1sts and 2 2nds. Take some home run swings at high upside guys who fall.

Becuase Fiala + Dellandrea isn't > Slafkovsky on an ELC and RFA deal based on expected surplus value, honestly

It would basically require fixing the goaltending (Oettinger/Wallstedt) or a 90+ percentile WAR player under the age of 25 who fits a need for the Devils (Tkachuk)

But like I said, I'm not the GM. Maybe Fitz and co. see things differently. Who knows. I just don't see the 2nd overall pick being moved for anything except elite "heavy skill" or team-controlled goaltending.
