This is counter productive.

IF they needed to get rid of White's salary (he's a good 3rd liner), they can just BUY HIM OUT for cheap

It would be stupid to spend a 5th round pick to NOT do that ($5,250,000 over 6 years should be NOTHING for a NHL team)

Getting Paul Byron $2,800,000 salary when there is absolutely no roster spot for him, would be even more stupid

Doesn't matter, neither does age. He can still skate and play 20+ minutes, that's makes him valuable. Wherever he goes he is like a part of Thier top 4 as soon as he gets there and I don't remember top 4 dmen going for that cheap
