A more careful approach

Description
Eller on 4th line LW worked nice for a game and he stays with the Caps at least until the trade deadline. This gives McM the chance to solidify his spot in the lineup. Hershey Caps for most of the year as Snively gets a big chance in the top 6 and AJF wins 13th forward. 6.9 million of cap room is only 1.8 million once Wilson is activated. Caps wimp out with no vet goaltender since whoever they brought in might be average and overpaid. They pick VV as starter but get young upstart in Comrie who could surprise...or not. Young prospect LucaJo gets the start at 3LD for the year with vet Irwin as fill in. They can do upgrades at the TDL if they are playoff bound again. If Backstrom comes back in Oct of '23 you can make moves to make it work. Short sighted management teams that are well over the cap find ways to get bailed out every year it seems. The Caps would be no exception.

This would be really disappointing and a worse team than last year

I saw this as a 'hedging your bets' attempt where you can try for the playoffs again while continuing the development of the young players that are coming now. It's risky I know and could get Bmac fired but there are many many options on how they could approach this season. For instance, they could, and I hope, try for a better FA than Strome but this is what they could end up with if either Kadri or Trocheck sign elsewhere. Also, this FA class of goalies is really not that impressive and for instance while someone like Keumper is in the SCF, his team is so loaded that how much better would he make the Caps than VV? A few more wins? Perhaps...

I'm all for getting young guys more minutes but the only young guys in this are McMichael, Snively, and Johansen. I also feel like Ovi, Kuzy, Carlson aren't getting any younger so you don't really have the time to hedge
