I can't see New Jersey giving you the 37th overall pick for one year of Alex Kerfoot.

Retention is more important to us than compensation in taking Muzzin off your hands. I think that it needs to be at least 40% to get us interested, as we have bigger targets in mind and need the cap space.

I believe the Leafs and Muzzin structured his deal so that actual money owed in the last 2 years of his deal is significantly less than his cap hit. I don't think LA is the right fit for him, but perhaps one of the teams with Cap Space to spare but not much coin to give out would be better for a trade (depending on Muzzin agreeing to it). I could see Buffalo considering it depending on the asking price. They aren't a contender as such but much closer than Arizona and Seattle. Ottawa could be another but I think they have enough prospects that are close to auditioning that it wouldn't be worthwhile for them.

It's still 4 million/season, not exactly a huge bargain. With signing bonuses too.

Muzzin also isn't bad or a negative asset, so the Leafs really shouldn't be moving him.

The cost to dump Mrazek on the Kraken will be more than exchanging a 3rd for a 4th and lousy Holl.

4m a year cap hit. I want to say it's about 1M a year owed since the contract itself was front heavy. It was structured this way to make him easier to trade in that regard.

I agree that he's not a negative asset by any means. With the concussions and age, his clue has dipped some but he can and should still return a decent haul. The Leafs problem is they signed Giordano (I liked him and his no bull****, no backing down mentality on the ice), they have Rielly, and they have Sandin. For the reasons listed above, moving Muzzin make more sense for the Leafs than keeping him and trying to play Sandin on his offside again (assuming Holl goes) or rotating him and Lily.
