Description
Obviously just for fun, price has a NMC and Simmonds has a M-NMC... if Montreal could pull this deal off I believe they would be a way better team... Trading Price would benefit the team.. I don't think they will win unless they get a #1C and price could get that and more.

Darling's rights were worth a 3rd round pick from Carolina, who have a much better pick than Montreal. That set a standard for that type of trade, so you won't get Bishop for a 5th, much less a 7th. I'd imagine the Kings would be asking for a 2nd, since he's a much more proven tender than Darling.

HARD PASS. Not even close dude. There is zero chance the Flyers would trade the #2 pick for Price let alone our top scoring forward and top scoring defender. If you are sending Galchenyuk and Patches/Sergachev then maybe but this isn't even close

Seems like the Flyers are getting hosed in this deal lol. I know people view Price as a Greek god, but no one does a goalie fetch that return. On top of that, why would Price agree to this deal? Hey Carey listen we need you to sign this deal and you'll be heading to PHI. Well not the Philly you know as we're taking one of their top wingers, their #2 overall pick and one of their good young d-men. It doesn't make sense that Price would be willing to weaken the new team he'll be playing for. Of course all of this is assuming he'd even play for PHI.

Price can't sign an extension before July 1st anyways, so Philly would be giving all that up on a gamble that he'd even re-sign with them.

Also, why wouldn't Philly just keep all those assets and go out and sign Bishop themselves? I always love that facet of fantasy GMing. Trade a nice piece off your roster for a ridiculous package in return, then go out and fill the hole you just created by magically signing the best available UFA. Tada! Supa dupa fantasy asset management 101!

Not to mention this way too much for a goalie in a trade, no matter who the goalie is.

I'm going to go the other way with this and say a hard no from the Montreal stand point. Why in gods name would the Habs trade Carey Price and beaulieu for Simmonds, the ghost, 2nd overall. The ghost had a good rookie season, was not so great this past season so really who really knows what he is? Im not convinced hes that much of an upgrade over Beaulieu. Mason is not worth talking about, plus where does he go if you sign Bishop and have montoya there and Charlie lindgren also fighting for the back up role?

That leaves the deal being Carey Price for Simmonds and the second overall? If thats me, I dont trade arguably the best player in hockey for SImmonds and a player who might not amount to anything. This isnt a Mcdavid/Eichel year at number 1 and 2. These 2 players IMO are not game breakers. You dont trade someone who consistently steals you games and former league MVP for a package like that. Thats not near enough.

Ok everybody I'll try to sum things up with one comment...

For those saying Philly is giving up too much... yes they are giving up a lot but it's to get carey price. Montreal isn't going to trade price unless they get a lot. Ghostisbehere is a slight upgrade over Beaulieu it's basically Price for simmonds, whoever the flyers pick, and a slight upgrade at D. I was considering giving the Flyers McCarron to compensate for them losing simmonds but in the end I decided the value is close to fair. Nate elder I can't help but laugh when you say there is 0 chance the flyers would trade the #2 overall pick for Price. Price is classified as the best goalie in the world and you wouldn't even trade a top prospect in a relatively weak draft for him. Then you go on to say let alone simmonds and Ghostisbehere as if beaulieu wasn't included to compensate for the flyers losing Ghostisbehere.

Burn em up you are 100% right but fantasy GM is for fun. Philly should be looking hard at Ben bishop just like montreal should be looking at trading price and replacing him with bishop.

As for the conditional pick I didn't even consider the darling trade but that isn't the norm for trading for a UFA's rights... is darling an RFA? I'm not sure but a UFA's rights aren't worth much in a trade as he is still a UFA.

      ... more to come later

      To phozzwald:

It would benefit montreal greatly if they could get valuable players in a trade and manage to sign Bishop to replace price as well. This is a great deal on their end. Mason is a UFA (I think) and I just thought if montreal is trading price they should trade for masons rights as well as bishops to ensure they have a starting goalie for next year. If Bishop declines you sign mason, if Bishop signs you release him to free agency, simple as that.

To kings fan, I followed up and realized darling was indeed a UFA, puzzling move by Carolina to say the least in my opinion... tampa bay would have been better off keeping bishop and trading his rights apparently he's worth more now than when he was at the TDL

Another Price trade for Simmonds that I don't think Hextall will do in addition with the #2 pick. Would need a draft pick coming back and I would rather hold onto Ghost (don't know much about Beaulieu).

If Price re-signs, then I think we would be a playoff team. Regardless, tough to justify sending your best player within the same conference unless you are completely rebuilding.
