Add into the fact he's due a raise the following year, which Pitt can't afford. He wasn't brought up in the Penns system and isn't going to take a discount just to stay on the team. He's gonna want 9+ a year.

That's the issue though is that other people know that so the return for Pettersson will be better than Dumo. Let Dumo play one more year while he's still better than Pettersson and then he walks and you can use that money next year to sign someone.
