Don't know why the Devils would do this....DeBrincat could be a UFA in two years. Maybe sign Gaudreau (I know Gaudreau has a choice) and keep the 2nd overall pick.

4 years younger, less cap. More conducive to their timeline and who knows what he will look like on a good team. Could be really scary

Whether NJD decide to pull a trigger is their business but for me, from CHI pov at least I wouldn't be acceptive of this proposal. For me Holtz + 2OA + Stillman/Boqvist is what would get CHI to bite

Less cap for one year but even if he signs long term....it's not going to be that much less Gaudreau, maybe 2m...certainly not worth the 2nd overall pick.

No reason for out of playoff team, and will be out of playoffs in 22/23 to give up the 2nd overall for guy who may/may not resign long term. And no reason for team with cap, not to spend a little more for a UFA. and keep the second overall pick.
In a cap strapped league there are more sellers than buyers of high cap player...especially when UFAs can be signed by teams with cap. Just because the Hawks made a foolish trade to get Jones no reason for the Devils or any other team to do it.

I don't disagree with you necessarily though CHI don't need to sell. I also think any CAT trade will come with an idea of what his next deal is looking like, it could even come by way of an 8 year deal to maximise the return. Ultimately it comes down to what the guys who make the calls decide to do and who they deem as the player that will take them there. Im hopefully Johnny stays in CGY, but your right there are some UFA coming which they could pursue or even Fiala but that doesn't mean CHI need to sell on the cheap.

I’d love to see Zacha included as part of a deal with NJ (if it happens), but the Devils will need to add much more if they want ADB.

Debrincat isn’t a 40 goal scorer away from Patrick Kane. Book it.

Your right, he is probably a 50 goal scorer on a good team.

He’s probably a 30-35 goal scorer when he isn’t next to one of the best playmakers of the last decade. Expecting a top 2 pick and another guy who was picked 7th overall fairly recently in a loaded draft is insane.

New Jersey could get an equivalent player in Fiala (extended) for Holtz + 2nd. Judging the two trades based on player received vs what they would have to give up, going for Fiala is a no brainer.
