Not a bad idea with the gudbranson/zadorov adds, but probably wouldn’t do both, and try to get away with the cheapest, least term one. I like the husso add, but something similar, would want to try to get him signed a little cheaper, and possibly a little less term. Not sure this squad is ready for a 5 million 3rd liner, just think it maybe able to create something similar from within, and more team control and ceiling than copp. I like copp for a hard working veteran leader, but 5 million might be spent better if that is not what is needed. As always just an opinion

Instead of Copp, I'd go after Marchment. I also don't see the need to sign someone to play above Severson, Severson is an excellent top 4 defenseman that everyone hates for some reason

I like Damon in the top 4 as well. I'm not quite sure the young D-men for the Devils are quite ready. In particular Ty Smith. Which is why I added 2 from the UFA market.
I feel the devils need an experienced winger that brings some leadership. I am also not sure (assuming the Devs draft him) if Slafkovsky makes the lineup -- Do they try to give him some games in the AHL? Probably a smart move. But I think he might play a few games for the Devils if he has a good camp. I am hoping he is not another Zacha.

Find it interesting that you went ahead and committed 8.5m over 4 years to 2 replacement level defenders when your title contains “No huge UFA contracts”.

Would rather try and poach someone more talented and younger defender like Fitz did with Siegenthaler. Hague would fit that profile perfectly and is a clear upgrade over Zadorov and Gudbransson in my view.

Between Smith, Walsh, Bahl and Okhotiuk there should be at least one full time NHLer for that last spot on the third pair, with more than enough cover for any injuries.

Playing Slaf (or whomever we end up drafting at #2) is a mistake. You’d just be hurting his development throwing him into the lineup that early.
Devils would be better of playing any of Johnsson, Kuokkanen or Tatar in the lineup over Slaf for the 22-23 season.

It’s also not a certainty that Holtz is ready to go at the start of the season, he might need some more time in Utica to start the season.

It’s not all bad though.

some good takes but if you trade for JP you are going to have to pay him more or risk losing him to an offer sheet , it would cost a 2nd rnd pick at that $ offer. You could just sign him for ~3.5 and give up a 2nd , keep Zacha or trade him for other assets

I like Zadorov and Gudbranson additions but too much $ and term IMO
going to be interesting to see the improvement with New Jersey, Buffalo and Ottawa next year lots of good talent in the mix
