Pt2 realistic offseason Please comment thoughts

Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 30, 2022
Published: Jun. 30, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1) Varly for a 1st makes alot of sense and if campbell isn’t coming back with reports he could get around 6M is a no go for me. Varly is a #1 yes only for a yr but id be willing to give up a 1st for him.
2) We need more physicality and this years playoffs showed that. The 4th line is beast in my opinion and all guys who can come up with a clutch goal like Helm's GWG or Cogliano GWG's. Those are depth pieces who all played a huge role for Colorado to win. You cannot just have speed and skill and think you're going to win.
3) I meant to put Nick Paul or Gourde in the middle as we probably all heard in Leaf land is that JT maybe moving to wing because of his age and his speed as regressed a lot last year. Nick Paul can win face-offs and from what I saw in the playoffs could be a sneaky add for that spot that wouldn't cost much. If they end up leaving Jt at Centre, move Gourde or Paul to the 2nd line LW and put Nick Paul at that 3rd line spot.
4) Lazar is one of my top free agency targets and will probably cost not that much. He win's face-offs at almost a 50% rate, Pker and can hit with 186 hits.

While I think the Isles should do that, Lou has said in his interviews he wants to keep him around.

I think Paul will make at least 4 after the playoffs. Not saying he is definitively worth that but if he leaves Tampa some Gm will for sure overpay him after his performance. That's my take at least. Not sure i like the sanford deal either. Could save 750k with some plug or something

I do at least worth one 2nd. Hes a guy who can play a 4 lines and PK and is cheap for a player like him so I easily think he can fetch a 2nd easily

Paul is about a 1.5m player tops, just had a decent run with Tampa. Lazar has 51 points in last 5 years of NHL, league minimum if not Europe for him

In this situation they let him go and flip the pick before the draft imo

I can see that and if that's the case maybe a Vrtrano or domi. But also Paul is from here so I can see him taking a small discount to stay close to his family

In this situation I don't like the Gourde addition (mostly because of adding Nick Paul) . I'm sure Bunting will also be an own rental. I think the Leafs should keep Envall over Paul as that would save money, and you are adding size elsewhere. I also would like the possibility of extending Kampf as well. So, not a fan of the Paul addition at all. Also, would like to see Knies join later in the season, so I think a commitment to both Gourde and Paul kind of prevents that.

Adding Varly just delays issue a year, and I'm not sure that he actually solves it for the year either, I know Comrie is a break out candidate but would hate banking on these two to lead us to the Finals.

I agree, Lou just does not want to send Varly away as he is Sorokin's friend and mentor.

I think if a 1st was offered the Isles should accept immediately.

Did ya watch the playoffs and see what Paul can do? Lazar isn't made for the top 6 and that's why I think he can be a sneaky add for that 4th line as I stated in the description

I see what you're saying but adding a pain in the ass or guys who can do everything is so key and that's why I would love this team I put together. Great depth and just guys that know how to win. I also think trading Muzzin this year or next will be key and I hope they can find a trade for him and if they can that's an extra 5.625 for next year. Kampf will forsake get a raise but how much? 2.5? I also get that Knies is coming up soon but if we wanna win we gotta focus on this year and this team is well built more to get out of the 1st round unlike any team we've had.

goalie situation: Varly hasn't had a down year recently and from what im hearing Husso maybe a target or Blackwood but man that looks like a bigger hole then without Varly in my opinion. If he doesn't work out then let him go and wait for next year. I get it's a 1st but hes been a good goalie and if he plays well resign him

We already have around 10M in cap next year so that will take care of Kampf and Bunts easily + if we trade muezzin that's 15.625 for next year if we trade him this year or next

It's still 10m for 6 spots. Bunting can be anywhere from 3-5m and Kampf probably around 3. Which would leave you at best cast 2m for 4 spots + a starter. Even if you move Muzzin that gives you money for a starter, but still leaves you with 2m for 5 spots.

Also, not a fan of moving Tavares to the wing since he's still elite in the circle, and 11m for another winger isn't something we can afford. Unless Nylander or Marner can get converted back into C's and be able to win some faceoffs but also play the positional sound.
