Staying on Top

Created by: KyBull
Team: 2022-23 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 29, 2022
Published: Jul. 6, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Money left-over to add to contracts like Trocheck, Nuck, Lehky, Marchment, and Gustafsson. Also, I am hearing Keumpher could be returning at $5m per, but I think Fleury would be better to mentor our future goalie, Annunen. The tandem of Fleury and Franky would be solid and could easily compete for another cup.

You still have a lot of leftover cap space. I think its pretty crucial to use that on Kuemper instead of Fleury.

If Girard is going to the Isles, Beauvillier must be in the return. Cost-controlled middle 6 options are what we need the most right now.

I can’t see Seattle doing that.

Nuke gets more money and hopefully more term (6-7 years I’m hoping).

I doubt that’s enough for Fleury.

Don’t sign Gus, he’s horrible.

I actually really like the Trocheck deal, he’d be a good replacement to Kadri.

With Joe Sakic at the helm and the talent on this team the Avs would be a Cup contender even with Hardy Astrom in net.

Respect. I dig most of what you have to say. I appreciate the thought-out feedback.

I disagree. Fleury is still extremely capable, especially with Franky being more of a 1B goalie. Kuemper is looking for term, which I don't think we should offer with Annunen only a year or two from making the jump. Also, Fleury will be cheaper.

-the Reverse Toews! I'm here for it!

-I think Soucy gets a bigger return but he's a decent target to replace Girard.

-I think Nichushkin & MAF sign for bigger deals but you've got the room to play with on this team so not a worry for me.

-Agree with upthread - Eric Gustafsson is a decent 7th D but he's an all offense/no defense kind of D. You can probably get a decent LD3 for a mid/late round pick or $2-3M in UFA instead of going cheap on him.

This is great! Thank you for the detailed feedback, I think you're right about Nuck and MAF, it's tough to guess salary especially after winning the cup and how much interest there likey is out there for a player like Nuck. We don't need more offensive defensemen, whoo would be the replacement for Gust?

Not sure how much action there will be on guys like this, but I would definitely be looking in the Ian Cole/Jan Ruuta/NIkita Zadorov areas for that LD3, or if you want to play Soucy on the left side, I'd go for a vet like Justin Braun - I'm sure most of those guys would sign a discounted deal to play for the defending Cup champs and really be solid, if not sexy, bottom pair guys.

What a brilliant calculated gamble by Sakic. It cost him 2 3rds and a 5th for what looks to be a number 1 goalie with his best years ahead of him at what should be a relatively reasonable contract. Outstanding! Can't wait to see how he fills out the rest of his roster.
