It isn't really that bad. He still scored at a 76 point pace last year and the caphit is $8.25. So overpaid by about $1M but there are way worse contracts out there. Blake Wheeler's demise has been greatly exaggerated due to the time he was playing with broken ribs 2 years ago and last years slow ramp up after he got Covid. Even with those injuries he still put up nearly a point per game.

His points are fine, but he's still an aging player at that number. And how much is the deal worth it considering I now have to have his baggage as well. And bless Sutter, HOF coach, but even he and his systems have limits on how much better they can make someone who is dreadful defensively.

Mainly if they decide they can trade MT, they definitely get more. At the minimum they don't take a bad contract on. Also, I don't understand why Winnipeg would do this unless maybe it's TDL and they are ahead in the division. Zero chance he signs an extension there.

Yea big nope.
Wheeler is on the downward slope of his Career and has injury problems.
Flames can get way more with plenty of other teams.

Would have to start with Perfetti +++
