I mean they’re retaining $5,250,000 and taking on Bailey so it’s not that bad. Also, it’s Patrick freakin Kane who is not your average 34 yr old Lol

Sure, a 34 year old with 10 straight seasons of 100 pts and hasn't even started to slow even with how bad Chicago has been. Kane is a fantastic pick up and at 5.25 it's fantastic value for a player of his calibre and pedigree and resume

He’s the best American player of all time. Doesn’t mean I’d pay thru the nose to get a 34 year old. You are talking about his past accomplishments while ignoring the fact guys usually enter a steep decline when they hit Kane’s age. He might be the exception for a couple more years but still.

Bailey can probably be moved anyway tho. Giving up a first for someone Kane’s age isn’t a great idea given the fact guys his age usually enter a steep decline. Obviously Kane’s a fantastic player but a first, a third and a decent prospect isn’t worth it imo. I think you would be better off stockpiling assets to acquire a younger player.

He's a guy you aquire for this one single season that's it, yes your paying through the nose and yes he will have a major positive impact on whatever team lands him. He is absolutely worth the package presented here, this coat wasn't all that much especially while dumping 2 years of 5 million dollar middle 6 winger Josh Bailey

Bailey is also 34 years old so a much greater deadline coming from that player over Kane

I guess you are getting heavily on the idea that Bailey can’t be moved otherwise, but I’d rather stockpile assets to acquire a younger winger.

Bailey will finish his contract at 34 years old. I’m not comparing him to Kane, but I am saying it’s a bad idea to trade for another aging winger when the isles r one of the oldest rosters in the league. They need to get younger up front and this deal isn’t a long term solution.

I don't think Bailey can moved easily or that there is even a market for him, he's not bad but just ok and is a middle six winger at 5 million against the cap not that much value there

Bailey is an older more expensive Kerfoot to be honest that's what and who he is. Nothing wrong with the player but nothing exciting either

I just think someone would trade for him cause of the A on his sweater lol. Either way I don’t c lou making another trade to acquire a rental. I think the Romanov trade is the perfect example of what Lou wants to do going forward.

You're right here, Kane isn't really the guy the islanders should be targeting, they should be targeting a younger player with some term but Bailey is doubtful going the other way in that trade.

I get what your saying. I just think the people on this site sometimes jump to conclusions when they assume someone is a cap dump.

I obviously have a soft spot for Bailey. I would totally move him if the isles got someone younger than Kane like Forsberg, but I don’t think they can continue to trade future firsts for rentals.

Won't happen, Leafs will sign Campbell over Keumper unless Holland is foolish enough to give Campbell 5x6 or 6x5, Campbell has stated he'd like to stay in TO but does want want a 20-25 million dollar deal with term so 4.2 x 6 keeps Campbell in TO and in my opinion is a better option than Kuemper

Just look at the return for debrincat (with 2 yrs left instead of 1). If this deal is available, isles should take it. It’s effectively a salary wash for this season and the isles get a dynamic winger that they have needed for so long.

All of these comments saying too much to give up for a 34yr old…he still produced better than any islander last season. And who can the isles trade for that’s younger and with term (and would cost ~$5mm)? That player will be a lot more expensive. Debrincat was there, but isles didn’t get him, who is left?

i know it seems like Kyle Davidson has recently been taken hostage and forced to make terrible trades that are ruining Chicago's future, but I think even his kidnappers would say "this one's a little light".

I don't love Patty Kane but he's coming off a 92 point season so he still has strong value. If you're asking for full retention, I'd be generous and say that costs the 3rd you're including here - which means that you're basically trading a pick and prospect for him and having them take Josh Bailey off your hands (he's not a cap dump but he needs to go to make this trade work, so Chicago is gonna discount his value.)

Not enough to me.
