Been reading about pettersson and he was a healthy scratch for much of the year and was awful, has a big contract signed for a few more years. What justification is there for any team to pay for the contract and not be compensated at this point

Pettersson was not awful by any means. He was arguably the Pens most reliable defender for long stretches of the season. He just gets bad attention because he's not flashy. He may be slightly overpaid, but he does not have negative value at all.

Can tell you didn’t watch him much. He got healthy scratched a few times and had some excellent defensive analytics (I believe he is 96% percentile in defensive even strength war % on the Jfresh cards). Also flashed some offensive potential at the very end of the regular season and was solid in the playoffs. All his scratches were during a rough stretch in the middle - late season where Mark friedman was playing excellent.

I only want to trade him because we have a surplus of LD

Then why is everything im reading about him was healthy scratch and was a 6D for most of the year? Just don't see how it's an upgrade for Detroit based on the scouting report on him from this season

I was only asking from what I read guy. Healthy scratch and played 6D most nights isn't inspiring

That Montreal trade makes no sense for the Penguins. Marino is better than Savard and is younger than him. Plus with the selection of Pickering, and an already jammed LD depth chart, acquiring Guhle is pointless. Heinen is also a very good middle-6 winger and the Pens should be signing him to a medium-term contract.

Because the vast majority of hockey writers, reporters, etc still have this ancient mindset that points somehow directly correlate to player skill. To reiterate; he's not flashy at all, but he does his job very effectively.

Curious as to where you read that, got a link??? He played 72 games(and all 7 playoff games) and missed 4 due to covid, so I fail to see how he was a healthy scratch much of the year. He also as mentioned above, was way above average in many advanced defensive metrics. Finally, he is a 3-4 Dman signed for 4.1 million a year. Not sure what NHL you watch, but in this one that is an average salary for that position.

Yeah I know the difference between flashy and doing your job. I was just going by what I read over the past few days and just think based on a lot of that it's not a match for Detroit

Just going by what I read last few days guy relax. You're making it like hes the best dman alive. He played 6D most of the year and I just think at this point it's a pass from det

Montreal is not doing that LMAO, they just traded Romy to open a spot for Guhle. WTH would they turn around and trade Guhle? Use some logic my friend.

PIT needs to trade him due to cap and POJ needing a roster spot so they're in no position to demand a high price but Marcus is a good fit in Detroit, he's one of the best defensive defenders in the entire NHL and would be a perfect partner for Hronek as his qualities are exactly what's needed for that job.

I'd be happy to give two 4ths for him and Kapanen (since he's being walked anyway here).
