Thinking up a storm here

Description
There’s so much Seattle can potentially do that can actually make them a playoff team or contending team. But the main thing for me is, Hakstol. I don’t think he’s the coach for the team at all.

I think thats a little too much to expect for Soucy. He does only have one yr left on his contract and Barrie isnt the cap dump everyone thinks he is. You literally have him slotted in on your first pairing so why would the Oilers be giving up more in this trade??

I think he has a very likeable offensive game. But that’s really all there is to like. He isn’t going to provide very strong defence at all for anyone. The only reason he’s on the top pairing is because he’s being paired with a defensive minded defencemen. Which could be a good combo. But I honestly don’t think Barrie will get a good return for the Oilers. It’ll probably be a 3rd for him or maybe, just maybe a 2nd round pick if a team is desperate enough. He’s not the top pairing guy you think he is.

Not only does it not make sense for Edmonton from a lefty righty standpoint it also makes no sense why Edmonton pays extra for half the player with half the term.

As said, Barrie’s defensive incapabilities. Soucy being a cheaper defencemen on lesser term would be more valuable than Barrie. Carson Soucy has the versatility to play on both Left side D and Right side D and obviously much more better defensively. Not to mention Soucy is a big physical guy. If Edmonton really wants to get better, Carson Soucy is a guy to target in the trade market. He may haven’t racked up a lot of points but he was still able to put up 10 goals and 11 assists but his two way game I think makes him all the more valuable at his cap hit.

I can't see Vancouver paying a 2nd for a worse contact.

Ew. No way Edmonton does that. Barrie is a perennial 50 point defender on a great contract, they aren't paying to move him.

Barrie defensive issues are heavily overblown sure he takes chances it's because he's good at it and gets paid very fairly for doing so but come playoffs his risk vs reward game is very different was one if not the most consistent d on the team for two years in a row during playoffs. If oilers move a right shot out and bring in a lefty what does that do for woodcroft and his ability to run a 11-7 system doesn't work with 5 lefties and 2 right shots. Doesn't matter if he has experience on the right side still upsetts the balance and removes a tool the coach tends to turn to regularly. In my opinion Seattle would need to sweeten this fairly significantly to even consider.

Here is the thing. Tyson Barrie doesn’t change the game at all for them. He clearly made no impact against Colorado. It doesn’t really matter if he lives up to his contract because he was literally replaced with Bouchard for a good chunk of time through out the season. His offensive capabilities do not make up for his defensive capabilities. The only way that works is if Edmonton were to get stronger defensive defencemen. And Edmonton’s best defensive help is Ceci and Nurse? I don’t know why Seattle would have to be the team to sweeten the deal when they are getting the better two way defencemen on a lower and more reasonable cap hit.
