If Torey Krug is worth more than Chychrun, why not just keep him?

Because Chychrun is a bigger bodied defender that suits a shutdown role with Parakyo much better than Krug, at less cap hit. All while being 7 years younger.

Krug would be an upgrade for Hamilton pairing.

Arizona just got two 2nds to take on nemeth, who had a $750k less in cap hit than scandella, who was terrible this year. This deal isn’t even close

You're not getting more than 2 firsts for Chychrun with his injury history.

Eh? I feel like you have not seen Chych play. Apart from being bigger, that's not what he is.

No, he wasn't. This is a tired old line.

He's spent his entire career on a terrible team though. I feel he'd be more utilized in Berube's system then Krug.

I mean he's not a defensive shutdown type.

Look at it a different way, why would NJD pay that price for Krug if they could spend less for Chychrun??

He starts 55% of his shifts in the defensive zone. Krug starts 29% in def zone. Sure some of that is system based, but Krug is eventually replaceable by Perunovich. Chychrun would represent a much larger body on the left side, something the Blues could use in a 1st pairing LHD.

Only reason is that I can't see NJD parting with a 2021 1st rounder (something Arizona lost) and a 1st for Chychrun this close to coming out of a rebuild. Arizona GM Bill Armstrong also drafted Bolduc...which is the personal connection missing in the trade.

But that's a good point, regardless.

Who else is going to take d zone starts for Arizona? Again, shutdown D is not his game style. He's a puck moving offensive player in style.
