Description

Honestly rather have Palat at 5 then Johnny at 9.
Johnny is great but the team needs veteran leadership that knows how to lead in the postseason. No need for more speed and high end scoring. Palat will get in front , forecheck and create space on the icee for hughes.
Wont mind signing Sonny for low risk contract as a backup , nervous that bratt deal isn't done.

I'm still scratching my head why the Devils didn't grab Cat, age and cap hit would have been a really good fit, plus I think the Devils have a better shot extending him for max term then Ottawa will

Palat is a bad fit for this team because he is old and only ok. Gaudreau is a top player in the league. The contract was an overpay and will hurt their chances at Bedard, but not help their playoff chances much

Ugh. Palat at 6M AAV is definitely not close to a good contract. He's 31 years old and is a complementary player that by every model will regress. Highest goal season is 23 goals, 8 years ago. Way worse than a Josh Anderson contract who's only 28, cheaper, faster, stronger.

I agree Cat would have been great. But Palat is not old dudes 31. Cant win with a team full of no playoff experience. Gaudreau is a top player but homestly i see hughes as the same type of player, and gaudruea dissapeared in the playoffs palat does the opposite. I think Fitz makes it clear they arent playing for Bedard.

It says nothing about the Devils franchise, Gaudreau said no to 3 teams not just the Devils. Calgary was a playoff team and they offered more than anyone and he said no to them too. This idea that we need to evaluate the state of the team because 1 free agent declines an offer is such a weird take. Besides wasn't Dougie Hamilton a top FA last year? They didn't have a problem signing him.

Nah everyone is looking into this way to much, all this means is the man wants to be closer to his family then Calgary but doesn't want to be hounded by the Fam 24/7 when he raises a kid. I think we all can understand that. Plus lets be honest the way things are going the dude made a real estate choice. Is probably buying a **** ton of acres in ohio, NJ is over congested. Not to mention that his wife is from Ohio...
