Further to that, why are we so eager to trade Holl? Sandin hasn't signed yet and who knows if he will. But even if/when he's signed, that still only leaves the Leafs with 7 NHL dmen. We need depth and I'd much rather it be Holl than elder Chara.

Borgen was actually solid for Seattle last season, especially at only a 900k cap hit. His advanced stats were better than Holl's on a much worse team. Holl just isn't worth the 2nd, you'll have to find another trade partner.
