What does the Nemec drafting mean to Severson long term

Description
Great signing of Nemec by the Devils but what does that mean to Severson long term. Hamilton will be the #1 RHD for years but when does NJ put Nemec over Severson. I haven't seen any mention of resigning Severson in the last few days so is Severson rethinking about extending his career in NJ? If this is the case then Winnipeg would be seriously interested in acquiring him.
NJ needs help on the PP and Winnipeg has Wheeler who is a PP specialist. Not saying Winnipeg will get Severson straight up for Wheeler but there is options.

Yes but would like to include Wheeler as both to help NJ with PP and help Wpg with cap relief. Open to offers but really would like to know what the talk with Severson is with the Nemec signing?

Devils aren’t trading Severson for Wheeler. We can get way more. Honestly could look to move him as part of JT Miller deal

I assume Fitz will still try to sign him but look for less term. It's less make-or-break to keep him now, so he can afford to low-ball him a bit more. He may be available at a deadline if they can't come to terms, but I can't imagine he'll even consider trading him before then.

Here is what I wrote in similar post by leafs fan…

——

Pre-Nemec selection, the conventional thought was that Severson extends rather easily this summer. But now with Nemec selected, Luke arriving in April and Mukhamadullin having his first taste of North American hockey, I think the possibility of a Severson trade has gone up.

——

I would keep Severson and still extend him (just with less NTC/NMC protection in years 2-3 of deal).

But a trade, while highly unlikely a month ago, seems remotely possible today.

——

I think he gets Justin Faulk like extension. 6-7 years at around $6.5 million. But I was saying loosen the No-Trade or No-Movement clauses in years 2-3 in case he gets supplanted by the kids.

So while I originally would have said something like:

2023-24: $7.0m (NMC)
2024-25: $7.5m (NMC)
2025-26: $7.5m (NMC)
2026-27: $6.5m (NMC)
2027-28: $5.5m (15-team NTC)
2028-29: $5.0m (10-team NTC)

…now, I would suggest…

2023-24: $9.0m (10-team NTC)
2024-25: $9.0m (10-team NTC)
2025-26: $7.0m (10-team NTC)
2026-27: $6.0m (10-team NTC)
2027-28: $4.0m (10-team NTC)
2028-29: $4.0m (10-team NTC)

Would push more money to top, in exchange for less NTC protection throughout deal.

Sorry about the cut and paste…but saved me some time.

(Kidding)

I think Fitzgerald would look for younger piece than Wheeler in return.

I think he would be a good fit in Winnipeg
I don't know how likely he'll go.
Depends on what type of extension he wants.

If we do trade him however, I think we maximize his value by trading him with etxtension for a younger power forward
