If you can pull off the Dallas trade, from a Chicago perspective, I would be okay with the trade with the Hawks.

Well u have 0 levrage, u wont have a better offer from any other teams, because he wants to play in MTL and its known that he wants to hit the FA, unless its MTL. U can have a package like this or u loose him for nothing in two years, and u will probably not make the the playoffs. If u keep him and loose him for nothing its terrible asset management. His value is only going down rn because of this.

The jets have a playoff team, whether you like it or not. The thing that sunk them last year was locker room issues. That’s why there’s a new coaching staff. We’ve seen worse locker rooms be fixed before. Therefore, 2 years competing with A 1A/1B centre combo is more valuable than whatever offer this or others like it are. Nothing of that value is coming back for the jets.

Also, that package is absolutely nothing for a guy like Dubois. To be honest. Teams are probably willing to top that for 2 years of Dubois, just like the jets would be willing to keep him for 2 runs instead of getting this.

It wouldn’t be letting him go for nothing, it would be getting him for 2 playoff runs then his contract being over. Then the jets can make a pitch just like any team. Also keep in mind that there is no concrete evidence that Montreal is the only team Dubois wants to sign with. It’s just speculation.

Remeber the package the avs got for duchene? Similar situation. Duchene saying he won’t be sticking around, 2 years left, no guarantee of signing long term. And eventually he didn’t sign with the sens. Yet he brought in that much for them.

Finally, the jets have no obligation to trade Dubois. If MTL wants him, they still have to pay something the jets want for him.

Jets could easily sign him for 2 years and trade him 1/2 retained at the deadline to a competitive team for a 2 year run and garner a stronger return than what you’ve offered. It’s not so much the value of your offer, it’s that it doesn’t address the needs of the Jets.
I understand that some Jets fans are a bit hysterical with their asks, but there are as many Habs fans with ridiculous offers assuming there are zero options for Chevy. Plenty of routes the Jets could take here.

This argument that the Jets have no leverage is simply not true.

They have two years of control and don't need to trade him. The idea that numerous Habs fans think that, and propose returns of a bunch of overpriced forwards who have hit their ceiling is insane. Trade deadline trades happen all the time where teams sacrifice first round picks, roster players and top prospects to get a guy on their roster for three months, and PLD is still 24, a three time 20 goal scorer, who plays a heavy game, there are going to be numerous teams interested in him who will give the Jets that package.

PLD only said he wanted to test free agency because of the bad year the team had. If moves are made beside him and the team wins a round or two next season, he could sign an extension. Everything is speculative, and I remember Habs fans being excited about Drouin, and look what happened.

At this point the only way PLD gets traded is if an offer is so good they can't pass it up. Throwing in two overpaid third and fourth liners is not getting it done especially when that first rounder is late.
