getting him would be the most dumbest thing ever, don't get me wrong he's a great player but this team looks a little bit worse then last year's team

Not sure why Montreal is giving up a first in a deep draft for a LD prospect when they already have a number in their pipeline. If for some reason they thought they did need him, why wouldn't they offer sheet him so the draft capital is much less.

sandin is further along and not offersheeting him keeps his salary low

Why hasn't Sandin signed yet if it is easy to keep his salary low by owning his rights? And he is slightly further ahead of Montreal's young D, which is not an issue for a team that likely doesn't expect to contend for another year or two. There has been rumblings that Sandin is not happy because of where he sits in the depth department in Toronto, but if he can't make the top 6 in Toronto this year, he isn't getting a first in a deep draft.

Montreal can't pay him this offseason and aren't trying to compete next season.

he doesn't see a spot for himself on the leafs. he's 2 years ahead of montreal d. which is good since its more inline with the forwards.
