If Nobody Else Wants Klingberg

Team: 2022-23 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 17, 2022
Published: Jul. 17, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I KNOW, I know, this is never going to happen, but it's fun to dream about nonetheless. (Can I make an ACGM for fun?) The Lightning give up a 3rd for the Coyotes to take Myers off their hands, then trade Killorn (who only has 1 year left) to the Kraken for two 2nds and a 3rd. They then give up one of those 2nds (along with Mismash-who was acquired in the McDonagh trade-and Roman Schmidt) to the Islanders for Oliver Wahlstrom, who joins Colton on the 3rd line. Finally, as Klingberg can't find a long-term deal for the AAV he wants, the Lightning sign him to a 1 year, $4.5 million "Show me/prove yourself" deal. Voila.

Yes, of course they are. See the attached description. I'm just having fun.

Holy **** what a terrible deal for the Isles. They counter with Bailey for Point

Again, read the team explanation on top. Of course the Islanders would be crazy to make such a move. This is for fun.

At least you get that it's a joke. *Clears throat at certain unnamed ACGM users*

I feel like if Klingberg were to take a one-year prove-it deal, he'd go to a team where he could play on the first PP unit since that's where he shines the most. I can't see him getting top PP time over Hedman.

Perfect timing! Although he signed with Anaheim who has three capable puck-moving/PP defensemen in Fowler, Shattenkirk, and Drysdale. Should be interesting.

You nailed it. Besides, Klingberg's better on the PP than all 3.

Agreed. Ducks are likely using this as a way to get assets at the trade deadline, and so they can push Shattenkirk and Drysdale down the lineup; Shattenkirk because he pretty much sucks at this point in his career, and Drysdale because he's still pretty young and they don't wanna feed him to the wolves as much.

With those four defensemen, however, plus whatever they have leftover there isn't much in the way of solid defensive play. John Gibson is gonna have his work cut out for him.
