Why would the Leafs trade the Sandman who is a potential first pairing defenceman?

Leafs trade the more productive and slightly cheaper forward, a great young Dman and a 2nd for the less productive slightly more expensive forward and the lesser pick.

I'm not sure whether the argument is that he will be more productive away from the isles or the extra year in term makes up the value. I'm not buying either.

In general all I see rn is Kerfoot and Holl going for picks

Then Leafs got a choice go 22 man and sign a 1.8mill wing (Milano, Heinen, Donato, Rodrigues etc) or go 23 and sign a good 4th line depth piece for around 1mill (Raffl, Motte, ZAR, Boyle, etc)

Still not even sure who is on the move. I suspect it is kerfoot for a pick or prospect and dubas signs Sandin and calld it a wrap. Not saying I agree with him, just what I think he will do.

This transaction would be terrible for Toronto! Kerfoot against Beauvillier I would not even say yes. In addition you add a very good hope to the defense 😮

I think both are gone

Holl was in trade talks and a team like Anaheim could use a cheap RD who can take a spot till one of the prospects is ready. As it makes no sense to have a 2mill dman in the press box. Let 750k Benn be up there

Also allows us to to sign a potential borderline top 6 like Milano or Heinen heck maybe Rodrigues

Whose trade talks? Talking heads don't count. Leafs have 3rhd (including Brodie). I don't see them moving Holl if they don't need to. I only say kerfoot due to all the middle and bottom 6 players signed. Mete and Benn are waiver fodder.

Leafs gonna need to move a RD cause Sandin or Rielly gonna be playing their offside come 2022-2023 and Holl is the logical guy. Was pretty much on his way out when Gio extended as once Sandin signs its

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Liligren
Giordano-Sandin

Nether can play the right side. Sandin won't be playing the right per both dubas and Sandin. If Rielly could play that side he would have been there long ago. Since this team became competitive he has been exclusively on the left for good reason.

Hope is still alive that Muzzin could be gone. But as it stands Sandin is in the pressbox. Which is why he hasn't signed.

Leafs sign ld so rd on his way out? It's like saying we signed samsonov so we can move Tavares. Keefes depth (not mine):

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl
Gio-Lilly
Sandin

Don't think of these as pairs, but this is the leafs D by ice time. Moving holl just creates a hole on the right side. With his contract being so affordable I'm just not sure which rhd you are plugging in to play 20min a night and kill the penalties at 2m or less.

Sandin then is gone he wont sign if hes the #7 he made that pretty clear.

He will just sign an OS if it came to that and Dubas wont want that therefore moving Holl and having one of the two I mentioned play their offside makes to much sense as why lose a 22 year old to keep a rental. And Sandin has played RD in a few games for the leafs and has shown little issue. Only when they put him with Rielly did it fail, Muzzin-Sandin was fine when it played together in that 3 game stretch

Again per dubas and Sandin he won't play the right. Coincidently he also can't play the right. He was absolutely atrocious on the right side. Was paired with Muzzin and it went horrible.

Keeping the the broken 6m defender with the horrible stats over the healthy 2m defender with the better stats who plays a a position you are thin on is the real head scratcher.

Clearly dubas and Keefe don't have this sorted. If they did Sandin would be signed. I can't say at this point what they will do. Maybe they do move Holl and tank Sandin's career. Hard to say.
