Description
What do you think, Anaheim fans? Ducks save $1million in real money ( Grant is owed $1.75 million, Kerfoot only $750K ). First and third for taking on the Muzzin cap-hit, add a fifth to get some return, i.e. Jones. Not sure how you guys view Jones, maybe suggest something else?

The first good Muzzin-to-Anaheim trade I've seen. I would accept that offer as the Ducks GM, but I'd let you keep the third.

Anaheim fan here, not sure we take this as is, but I think we are certainly close. Maybe swap Jones for Sam Carrick or Adam Henrique at 50% retention? Thoughts? Henrique is a solid 55% in the faceoff circle, but Carrick more has the size of a 4th line center than Henrique. Toronto seemed to do well last season when they had puck possession.

But thank you for offering the first decent trade to take Muzzin I have seen all week.

I'd certainly be OK with Henrique, I just thought that you guys loved him. He would fit in a lot of places on the Leafs roster.

Ducks take this and run. The 2 guys you offered up are better than both players the ducks give up in this deal. Carrick is a perfect 4th liner. Henrique is still a top 6 forward. Grant is awful and Jones still has to prove he can be a top 9 forward.

Yeah, I think you are right, I think my trade radar got burnt out today from all the leafs fans saying we would take Holl and Muzzin and give them our second and fourth for the pleasure of helping Toronto be cap compliant.

To be clear, no problem moving Grant, just was more interested in hanging onto Jones to see if he pans out. I know Henrique is still good, but not sure we do anything other than ride him to free agency, so not sure its a problem loosing him if it gets us some more futures.

I don't agree with the first two posters.
Leafs get fleeced so hard.
Spending 1st, 3rd, 5th in addition for 4th liners is terrible asset management when Toronto can acquire those through free agency.
Even is Muzzin's play has declined, he's not that bad to be dumped at that cost.

With what cap space would you find that in FA? Toronto has two years until Matthews contract is up for renewal, they have to win now at all costs, and the league knows this. Any cap dump that Toronto makes is going to take a pound of flesh to get done. That and Toronto is already 1.5 mil over the cap and still needs to resign Rasmus Sandin.

If you notice, after this the Leafs have a full roster, with Sandin signed, and $3.5 million in cap space. They can acquire another player who is not just a 4th liner. Don't forget, there are several teams who will need to move a player before the season starts just to get cap compliant, the Leafs could make a trade like this one, except they would be on the other side, where they could say " Yeah, we'll take that guy off your hands, but it will cost you." They could even recoup some of the draft capital that they are giving away here.
