Leafs jump on this, hold it down so it can't get up, then run away as quick as they can and never look back.

Leafs get fleeced so hard.
Spending 1st, 3rd, 5th in addition for 4th liners is terrible asset management when Toronto can acquire those through free agency.
Even is Muzzin's play has declined, he's not that bad to be dumped at that cost.</div></div>
If you notice, after this the Leafs have a full roster, with Sandin signed, and $3.5 million in cap space. They can acquire another player who is not just a 4th liner. Don't forget, there are several teams who will need to move a player before the season starts just to get cap compliant, the Leafs could make a trade like this one, except they would be on the other side, where they could say " Yeah, we'll take that guy off your hands, but it will cost you." They could even recoup some of the draft capital that they are giving away here.

Maybe swap Jones for Sam Carrick or Adam Henrique at 50% retention? Thoughts? Henrique is a solid 55% in the faceoff circle, but Carrick more has the size of a 4th line center than Henrique. Toronto seemed to do well last season when they had puck possession.
But thank you for offering the first decent trade to take Muzzin I have seen all week.</div></div>
I'd certainly be OK with Henrique, I just thought that you guys loved him. He would fit in a lot of places on the Leafs roster.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>Why on Earth would Buffalo do that?</div></div>
I guess I am undervaluing Asplund here. My thoughts were, Mrazek has a long track record of being a solid league average goalie, one disastrous year doesn't erase that. At $3.8, he's terrible value, but at $1.75, he probably works. Holl is a perfectly fine third pairing guy who can play second pair in a pinch, and eat lots of PK minutes. He is also the type of guy that would be in demand at the trade deadline for teams looking for cheap depth.
Take out Asplund and replace him with a third round pick, then flip Holl at the deadline for a third, you will have gotten Mrazek @1.75, and given essentially nothing in return. Would that work?

Buying out Mrazek costs $1 million for two years, then $1.5 million for two years after that. This way you avoid the dead cap space in years 3 and 4, when you need to re-sign Matthews, Nylander and Mariner.

You put Joey Anderson in the minors anyways. I think it’s a 2-way contract for him. I don’t think it’ll count against the cap if he’s in the AHL.</div></div>
Dude, you published a line-up two hours ago called "Easy team to figure out" where you gave Anderson 750 and Mikheyev 1 million, and said it was easy for Leafs to get under the cap. At least try to stay consistent, lol.

center depth for the future
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>At the cost of a guy who's more highly rated than any center prospect in your system? No thanks.
Take a look at the 2017 draft. Fewer than half of the 30 skaters taken in that first round have made any impression at the NHL level three seasons later. That means that there's a 50% chance the guy taken with your 2021 first-round pick won't make the NHL until 2024-2025 (f ever). We expect Thomas to be in the NHL in 2021-2022.</div></div>
I'm not sure of how LA would rank their center depth, but I would assume that Thomas is behind Byfield, Kupari and Turcotte at least, and maybe Vilardi as well. If you would rather substitute one of them, fine, because you are definitely correct about Toronto's prospects at center.

center depth for the future
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>We'd prefer the two-year head start on development Thomas has over the 2021 first-round draft pick. Neither Dermott nor Engvall are of any use to us prior to the expansion draft. We might be interested in one or both of them after July 1.</div></div>
Dermott could be useful in sheltering some of the King's young LD's, Anderson and Clague have a combined 10 games of NHL experience, and Bjornfot is not going to be in the bigs this year I would imagine. One year of Dermott, even if you were to lose him to the expansion draft, couldn't hurt.

Here's my thinking on that. Yes, Demers is older and more expensive, but his contract is off the books after this season. Holl's (admittedly manageable) salary goes on for two more years after that, during which time Hyman, Andersen and Rielly all need new contracts. The hope is that with steady, sheltered third pairing minutes this year, Lillegren is ready to fill the role starting next season, so the loss of Holl won't matter.

The 2020 pick is Columbus's.... 83rd overall. And Toronto isn't re-signing Clifford, but the 2021 pick is certainly negotiable. And btw, why wouldn't LA be interested in Dermott? They only have one LD signed right now, and , while they have good prospects there, none of them are ready yet, I don't think. Just curious as to how Dermott is viewed outside of Toronto.
