Is it just me or did CGY win the trade

Description
Obviously Calgary will need to extend both of them, but didn’t they win this trade? Two hundred point players swapped for each other, in addition to getting a top four RHD, prospect, and 1st. Obviously Tkachuk brings an element that is rare, but Calgary has pieces on its roster to replace.

I wasn’t buying the idea that Calgary was just blowing up the roster and rebuilding, not when they have a goaltender like Markstrom under contract for as long as they do. Losing your two best players in the same off-season is always rough, but at least you got something for one of them. Reminds me of when the Sabres lost Briere and Drury at the same time and got nothing for either. You’re already better off than they were. I don’t know if you’re better, but if there’s any solace you gotta remember that what you had wasn’t working anyway. It wasn’t Tkachuk and Gaudreau’s fault, but the Flames needed to change.

at first glance id say Calgary lost immensely in the Florida trade and that's because of the age difference between Matthew and Jonathan. Looking at the lineup you have above the Flames are significantly worse than last year. But back to your initial claim, only time will tell who won the trade but like I said looks like Florida may have the edge

The way I see it is that the panthers paid a top 4 d and a first for a more physical Huberdeau who is also younger and I assume would be cheaper. I would think Huberdeau would get 10+. Whatever happens, the flames can't let these two walk for nothing.

Next year, I think that Calgary got better post-trade, and Florida got worse post-trade. I think Calgary won’t be able to re-sign Huberdeau which could flip who won.

How are you going to feel next September when training camp opens and Huberdeau is in Montreal and Weegar is in Las Vegas and that 2025 first-round draft pick is packing his bags for his first season in juniors?

We already know how this trade turned out for Florida -- they got 8 years of Matthew Tkachuk for two guys who obviously weren't going to be with the Panthers in 2023.

I think that the only grade we can give this deal is "Incomplete."
