I think you've got the wrong team for Gurianov. Carolina has Pacioretty, Svechnikov, Teravainen, Jarvis, Kase, Fast, and Martinook down their wings, still with Necas to sign. It's more than fair value for him, just the wrong destination.

Oettinger at 3.5 isnt gonna fly. He played 48 games wt 914 and 2.53 gaa and was insane in the playoffs. If stars are smart they will lock him down to a thatcher Demko type deal, long term around 5-6 mill cap hit.

edit: nevermind the trade idea doesnt work for us.

Gurianov doesnt have much interest without money going back.

May be slightly underpaying Oettinger here, but it's not by much & a 3-year deal is exactly what both parties should want and expect. You used Demko as a comparison; he didn't see a long-term contract until after he played on a 2-year bridge deal. A 3-year bridge gets Oettinger and Dallas to the last offseason of RFA eligibility, meaning Dallas retains his rights, and allows the Stars to then lock him down for an 8-year deal after that.

I don't expect more than a 3-year contract worth $12-13.5M ($4-4.5M AAV). That actually gets him a higher AAV and cap percentage than what Vasilevskiy saw on his bridge deal as well.

Really like Gurianov and wanted canes to go after him but with the way the offseason has played out I can’t see it making sense even though I’d jump at this offer.

Maybe if we’re moving Necas elsewhere but they just don’t have room to play Gurianov with the way things are.
