Technically we could see a move as Penguins do have a buyout period and honestly should be exploring a Zucker buyout

I think the Ty Smith trade could age well. It's not great rn, but it's got potential.
The Archibald signing isn't bad either, he's a good depth guy.

You're not getting a better winger for 3mil - and then you also get a cap hit next year too. Just seems like a waste. Play him for a year and then you get the full 5.5 next year to spend.

If he did this weeks ago maybe, I don't see how it helps now.

I wouldn't consider Vatrano any better than Zucker or Kapanen. Not saying he's worse, but not any better.

FWIW I have our 2nd line as Zucker/Malkin/Rust - so that's what I was comparing it to.
