I still feel like Tarasenko and Canes makes sense

  2. 2023 2nd round pick (CAR)
CAR
  1. Kostin, Klim [RFA Rights]
  2. Mikkola, Niko
  3. Tarasenko, Vladimir ($2,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Obviously Canes fans will want to keep Necas, but I could see them looking at his underlyings and deciding he’s not worth investing long-term time/money into him. Tarasenko (while a bit redundant on the Blues) brings an element that Carolina still doesn’t quite have even with Paccioretty. Mikkola also a strong bottom pair defender who excels on the kill.

Why they have patches

Well yes, but one more player who can make those final touch plays would go a long way. He can turn a lot of their zone time into actual goals which they still need

If Blues retain a bit more on Vladdy Carolina can field a 22 man roster. Would have to trade Bear though

Yea Senko would be cool and this is also why we got Patches. We spend so much time on the offensive zone and take SO MANY SHOTS, but we can't convert on those chances regularly.

Basically the anti-Blues. We’ve got a squad full of converters but need some guys who can just do simple stuff and establish possession.

Drop Kostin, and retain half or get another team to retain extra, and maybe do something with Gardiner (not necessarily this deal), and the Canes accept as long as the Canes are allowed to negotiate an extension before hand.

Okay I’m curious why Necas shot impact metrics are so bad?!? Like even his good season he was caved in. What’s his deal?

I'm going to be doing this maths in my head so if this is a little off, forgive me.

Senko would come off the books at the end of this year. Meaning they'd be trading Necas for a rental, which they have already publicly said they will not do. He was thrown out in the Tkachuk sweepstakes because Tkachuk had an 8 year deal available. Even if Senko agreed to an extension, you're eating precious cap space this summer the Canes will need to replace Freddie (assuming Raanta is replaced by Kochetkov), and re-sign or replace Pacioretty, Kase, Fast, Staal. It also eats up a big chunk of money for the following year, when the entire core would need to be renewed (Aho, Teravainen, Pesce, Skjei, Jarvis, among others). So an extension doesn't make a *lot* of sense, but I could see the appeal. Also worth noting that Carolina aren't exactly an organization that has shown a love of signing big deals. The richest contract they have willingly given out was 7.75 for Svechnikov. They didn't even sign Aho to this deal, Bergevin did.

As for this year. They have roughly 3 million available to spend on another forward. Right now, the biggest issue on the roster is the uncertainty around Kotkaniemi. While I think ever Canes fan is optimistic he can make the transition to 2C, moving Necas out makes no sense right now. If Senko was going to be coming this way, I have to think it would be a deadline move with a quantity of Carolina prospects (not named Scott Morrow or Gleb Trikizov) in exchange. Obviously you can flesh the deal out with mid-late round picks on either side, but this isn't something I think works for Carolina.

Kostin is a non-entity here. He's kinda eh. If you take him out, I don't know that changes anything.

oh I just threw Kostin in to give him a scenery change. As for Necas, I kinda don’t get the sense the Canes really want to pay him. Obviously very talented, but his underlyings have been sorta awful and Tarasenko is kinda that player but scaled up immensely. Could go to the deadline, but the Blues are probably gonna be good enough that they’re not gonna want to subtract from their roster mid season.

he generally likes to hold onto the puck to find the perfect play instead of a play. Generally he isnt a threat to shoot so the defense can play their sticks to the inside assuming he will pass across the ice instead of shooting. he has a good shot but we havent gotten him to use it more often.

I feel like he fits with what the blues did well last season as a scaled down Vlad. Could allow us to bring in another more versatile bottom-6 guy like Erod.

Then I don't think this works. Necas is meh analytically, but he's also playing out of position. Something worth remembering, he was a center until 2017-18. He's still very new to this RW thing. Plus, with his age and the center issues... a boats a boat, but the mystery box could be anything. It could even be a boat

At least this is a refreshing break from the "JTMiller" crowd, who are likely taking a momentary pause to reload again.

Yeah would need to do a deeper dive into Necas before committing to him too.
