Canucks would have to add a significant amount to get Severson

Thats a crazy amount for a Miller rental. Its the equivalent of an offer sheet worth 8.4-10.5M AAV (ignoring the year of the picks)

Fair, tough to gauge his value really. Could be a 2nd plus Myers retained instead of a 3rd. I actually would prefer to keep Myers so I could rework the trade to be Dermott + a 2nd for Severson

What'd it take to move Necas + Bear in a package?

Its really not tbh. 2 30ish OA picks and a 62ndish OA pick for a legit top line centerman at 2.625m...

    Woof.

-How is 29 year old pending UFA JT Miller worth more than what 24 year old, multi-time 40 goal scorer Alex DeBrincat (with RFA years)? Chicago got a 1st/2nd/3rd for a better player. Set your sights lower if you don't want to get disappointed.

-The cost for cap dumps is incredibly high this summer. Dickinson is owed more real money than his remaining cap hit on his deal, so Arizona would need more than a 3rd goalie and a 4th rounder to eat that contrac.t

-I can't imagine a world where Carolina gives up on a 23 year old Martin Necas to get a 30 year old Tanner Pearson. Necas outscored Pearson last year and conceivably has room to grow (also, as we know, center > winger). Maybe you can swing a deal for Bear? But Carolina doesn't have a ton of RD depth behind him so I can't see them in a rush to move him out the door, either.

-Devils don't need the retention and would need a lot more convincing to turn Damon Severson into Tyler Myers than a 3rd rounder three years from now.

non rental roster improvement that fits in our cap structure. If not we'll make the cap work by waiving Gardiner.

In addition, they would still be in need of a RD and Pearson's contract wouldn't even be saving them money over Necas.

    Devils RD depth chart --

    Severson
    Hamilton
    Marino
    Nemec
    Walsh
    Hughes
    Mukhamadullin
    Casey

If NJD dealt Severson...my guess is that they probably want (a) younger player or (b) someone who plays another position.

Dude 7th overall + 39 overall for debrincat is waayyy more than 2 30th-ish overall picks 1 and 2 years in the future. So this is less of a payment.

Van just doesnt make the ARI trade then and doesnt sign Motte but DiPietro is close to ready for NHL action so he is a legit goalie prospect.

There was a 1st round pick in that trade that you forgot to mention

As I said in a previous comment, I would actually prefer to keep Myers. Everyone looks at his cap hit and screams that he is garbage but he a legit top-4 dman who is about 1.5m-2m overpaid.

Thus my suggestion to swap it with Dermott + a 2nd instead of Myers retain + a 3rd

Its better....but I mean, gosh, Travis Dermott is about the least exciting option out there.

At least reunite Rathbone with Walsh and Marino....
