He was just signed, it's going to take more than Dermott (who is a project) for him. If you want Bear, he is likely expendable, but probably for picks and futures.

signed to avoid arbitration, dont see him as a long term cane. wouldnt call dermott anymore of a project than bear

id assume an extension would be a part of any miller trade

Even with an extension I wouldn’t want to give up tomasino. He showed some real good things last year playing majority 4th line minutes at 20. I see him getting the opportunity to fit on that 2nd line with Joey and nino plus a full time 2nd power play time. I could see him maybe doubling his point total from last year but at least hitting 50 points as a 21 year old. I’d rather hang on to him. If we were to go after miller it would only be for a rental because no way can we fit him next year.

Dermott is far more of a project than Bear. Dermott isn't even sure what side is his best side. Bear started last year on Carolina's top pairing, and was there for the first month or so, people forget that. He's going to be a long term Cane. The reason they let Bear look for a deal elsewhere (which he obviously didn't get) is to show him he's not going to make more than he is worth anywhere. And why would you sign a contract entirely to avoid arbitration if you know you're going to have to give him a deal anywhere? You'd trade him to avoid arbitration...

So is he a LD or a RD? Dermott doesn't know what side he should be playing on and that is a huge worry. Like, Mikhail Sergachev can play both sides, but is a better LD than RD. TJ Brodie can play both sides, is a better RD than LD. List goes on and on. Dermott doesn't know what side he should be playing on and there's a lot of work there. That is a project. Bear isn't. They're not comparable

If he could play RD well, Toronto wouldn't have dumped him and kept Justin Holl

That’s an over pay to be honest. As you see it fabbro like he was here last year with us would be your top pairing right handed defenseman. So you get a top pair defenseman, a young forward with tons of potential and our top right handed defenseman prospect. To much for one year of miller.
