Habs can't afford Dach, how can they afford Seguin? Also Montreal isn't trading their 2023 1st. Could be Bedard

Horrible trade, one of the worst I've seen. Montreal can't afford to take in Seguin, they are up against the cap. Seguin is also a regressing player in terms of point production, as this trade progresses, Dach would be a much more valuable player than Seguin. Montreal is starting a rebuild, while Dallas is becoming a playoff team, finishing their retooling process. No way Montreal would be willing to give up their 1st round pick in 2023, it could be Bedard, who knows. Seguin would likely not make the Habs better either, he would probably play at the 2C position behind Suzuki. A joke of a trade

Why is Montreal PAYING Dallas to give them the better player?

Well...this goes without saying, but Dallas accepts. This trade is so insanely lopsided...and this is coming from a Stars fan.

Same here. If this happened I wouldn’t criticize any Jim Nill decisions for at least a year, and in Montreal....Kent Hughes would likely be burned at the stake.

I especially don’t get the downgrade of every Montreal pick (the 3rd they get back from the Stars isn’t even a 23’ draft pick) and a potential lottery pick in the 23 draft is worth some form of an upgrade.... Pull Dach and the Montreal second and thirds out it’s closer to the up pay to get that high chance lottery pick, but Seguin’s contract (with no retention) has too many years left even if he does fully recover and return to like 70% of what he was.
