Alzners not signing for that cheap, more along the line of 5+ if I had to guess
The value on the Tampa trade looks way off to me

A little better? And Alzner will take a discount to stay on Washington, i think

I'm pretty sure that if Yzerman were to deal Jonathon Drouin to the Caps, He would be seeking John Carlson but only if Carlson agrees to a long term deal here.

That's a bad team, and this is coming from a Caps fan. Alzner is terrible, let him go. Backstrom is a top 10 center on a steal of a deal, don't trade him.

As a Canes fan, I like the idea of getting Backstrom, thank you!

So, to be clear, you are giving up Philip Grubauer for nothing and proposing a deal with Tampa Bay to acquire Drouin for basically nothing? In a world where the Washington Capitals finally learned their lesson about slow old-school players, they do not bring back Karl Alzner or Justin Williams. Sure, Justin Williams is as playoff clutch as they come, but how much did that actually help the Caps this playoff run? Seems like just wasted money to me when you could use some of that money to bring back Oshie, etc.

How is Orlov and a second nothing? Also its expansion, Caps rather them take Grubauer before they take Schmidt........

I am sorry to say but that's 100% not true, your comment about Nate Schmidt. Perhaps because the Caps have Holtby and stability in net they don't care to give up Grubauer, but as far as value goes, Grubauer > Schmidt. And in the mind of Tampa Bay, Orlov and a 2nd, considering the offers that have been reported, let alone the ones that haven't and have only been speculated about, would be absolutely nothing.

What makes Orlov's value so low? And the Caps need defense not goal tending
