Miller Coming Home - 23-24

Created by: Mr_Gardoki
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 6, 2022
Published: Aug. 6, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
No major reports, but there have been a few that suggest Miller would like to finish his career with the Penguins.

Part of this is speculation/my gut on some of the Penguins unknown players.

Blueger probably gone for nothing and you can blame the Carter signing on that.

Why does this work cap wise... please delet this before Hextall or JT see this. The Metro doesn't need this. Thank you

I believe both of the athletic penguins writers (Josh Yohe and Rob Rossi) have mentioned that JT Miller would be interested in playing for Pitt in articles over the past little while.

Jarry would need to single handily win the Cup for the Pens to get 6.5 per. Him falling apart against the Islanders is too fresh in everyone's minds. Even 5.5 would be on the high end, but closer to what he ends up with unless he wins a series or 2 this year.

Hullsy pointed out the Athletic writers pointed out. I'm not copping out, but I honestly don't feel like sifting through their recent articles lol. If you're a member you can check out some of their recent stuff, but as I said, there were no direct rumors that he plans on coming here, just that finishing his career here would be something he'd like to do.

The going rate for a good starting goalie is in the $5.5 to $6.5M. I'm not saying he's definitely getting that, but I wanted to do some worst case scenario to make the cap more realistic. FWIW, he was a top ten goalie in the NHL this year. I know people want to rest on that poor showing against he Isles two years ago, but that's silly at this point. It was his first playoff appearance as a starter and there's very few burgeoning goalies who didn't have a bad playoff.

I wanted to quote a little higher. I'm a worst-case kinda guy with putting things together. If they have another million to spare then good, they can leave that space for a deadline move or call-up.

There's potential room for error with a couple of contracts like Smith and Poehling depending on how they perform this year, but Dumo, Zucker and Blueger leaving frees up a lot of space and the hit from the JJ buyout dropped a million.

Blueger is gonna get $3M+

He's a 3C being blocked by old man Carter.

i mean based on your moves don't sign fast and heinen and you got the money for blueger + we need a roster spot for Sam Poulin next year

There's a lot of things that need play out, so this is based on many what-ifs:

1) Heinen was a great fit, but we obviously need to see if it was a fluke or not.
2) Poehling has to prove he belongs in the NHL and is capable of being an effective center.
3) DOC still has something to prove.
4) Poulin hasn't done anything yet, so I'm not factoring him in to any real decisions.

If Poehling proves effective. If Heinen picks up where heft off. I'd rather spend $4M on Heinen and Fast than $3-$3.5M on Blueger.
