A Downward Spiral

Created by: JackSC87
Team: 2022-23 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 6, 2022
Published: Aug. 6, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Sharks are a team that will be burdened by the cap for years to come. With a Jones buyout already on the books for five more years. As well as the Burns retention of 2.7 mil for three more. And with Couture, Hertl, and Karlsson for many more years, I genuinely can't see this team making the playoffs for quite a while.

Eklund, Bordeleau and the 2023 1st could make a good foundation for future. Just that darn cap.

Eklund is our savior (hopefully)

he is a piece of it. with him, Bordz, Coe Robins Weisblatt and Gushin we have 6 top 9 forwards to add to the club in the next 3 years.i’m hoping for a top 3 pick to add another Elite prospect forward and solidify this group.
on D i’m feeling Bearish on Merkley future in the NHL. This year will be a huge tale on him. he comes in to camp in shape with added muscle and drive he could be a difference maker. he comes to camp like last year and i see him as potentially an AHL tweener. Still the sharks have a few solid prospects in Laroque, Hatakka, Kinazev, Cicek and Havelid. still we need a top line RD and LD prospect added to this list to make me feel better.
in net we have 3/4 prospects who have solid upside plus Kahkonen so we’re solid there.

these ELC combined with team control for the first few years gives us a chance at overcoming the large cap hits we’re waiting to overcome.
