Trades
1.
CGY
  1. Firkus, Jagger [Reserve List]
  2. Tanev, Brandon
Additional Details:
Seattle Sends Tanev for Monahan. This is just term for AAV. Monahan has 2 year left Tanev has 3. Both are underperforming, arguably dead contracts. Seattle is week in the middle, so if Monahan has a resurgence, great, if not, he is an LTIR Candidate.
SEA
  1. Monahan, Sean
  2. Phillips, Matthew
  3. 2025 3rd round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Philips is a good player, but I don't see Sutter giving him the roster spot he needs. Calgary should send him somewhere he has a chance at playing. Seattle seems ideal. I threw in the 3rd just because Firkus currently is considered to have higher upside. Not sure if it is excessive.

I like Tanev to Ottawa a lot, but the big upside to adding him is that his two year deal is perfect because it buys Lassi Thomson a couple of years to acclimate to the NHL before running him with Chabot.

Not even worth mentioning lol. They simply will not move him.

Thomson isn't untouchable, but the deal needs to make sense for Ottawa. I'd move Thomson for 25 year old Jake Chychrun, but probably not 32 year old Chris Tanev. nothing against Tanev, but Thomson could be a full time NHLer this season imo, and by the end of Tanev's two year deal he should be ready for top 4 contributions. Very short sighted move that definitely makes Ottawa better for a year or two, but long term I think looks rough.

Ducks decline. Don’t pretend that the ducks youth means they’ll take on a $5M+ cap 4th liner/benchwarmer without due compensation

I think the Second, even with a 4th is good compensation considering it is only a year. Lucic's contract is terrible, but he was a great bruiser for the 4th line last year. Would have been great at 1.5M AAV. Shame we had to sign Neal and this was our out. The contract still played out better than Neal's. Picks aside, you should still want him on your team for 1M salary. AAV is pretty inconsequential if there is now way you'll get near the cap. Maybe it's a 5th or 6th back for the second. Maybe it's just a 3rd to ANA. I doubt they wouldn't take that.

True. I suppose they will have to go the UFA route if trading prospects aren't in the cards.
