Wheeler Trade Milano signing

Description
Saw this trade recommended on Twitter and found it pretty interesting for both sides.

VAN gets out of two bad contracts, and gets out of long term money in Garland, acquires the better Right shot Dman, and takes on Wheeler at full price, but only 2 years. GMJR has been rumoured to try and get wheeler for years, and you know GMs love to eventually get the guy they chased. He’s overpaid, but has utility in VAN’s top 9, and PP. Bruce Boudreau a fantastic personality for wheeler at this stage of his career.

WPG gets what I consider the best asset in Garland, but takes on two bad deals to do it. Salary almost even across the board. WPG prefers not to move Pionk, but management loved Myers and if they had the money, they were signing him long term. The familiarity likely eases the minds of the D swap. And Dickensen was utilitized well by Bowness in DAL as a defensive 4C, so familiarity there despite being overpaid.

WPG still has money post trade and dumps some term and a bag in Milano’s hands to round out the F group.

Both trades are really bad for the Jets.

Rather keep 26 year old Garland on a very efficient and team friendly contract than an overpaid 35 year old Wheeler. Pionk is nice but we aren’t saving any cap space in this trade

Was going to say the same thing. This deal isn’t horrible on the surface but it’s really just Garland for Pionk because the other contracts cancel themselves out salary wise.

Not sure what’s so exciting about that. Absolute drama queen, probably not a very likeable guy, poor work ethic, just a 60 point player.

Hey 61 points is Suzuki’s career high! And he gets an absurd $7.8M to do it. Another bergevin beauty. Quickly becoming the most overrated player Habs have ever had

Not at all, they likely come out slightly ahead in the VAN deal. And getting a third for Stanley is better than losing them on waivers as they probably should this year. He stinks.

Kindve how I see it too, I’d lean jets slightly here. It’s the kind of deal I don’t think anyone would love, but could talk themselves into. Found it interesting none the less, wanted to see some thoughts
