Signing Meier long term and Vlasic buyout

Created by: Kjell_Forsman
Team: 2023-24 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 9, 2022
Published: Aug. 9, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Before you get up in arms over Eklund being at C, the plan for him since day one was always to be a center. He played 3C for Djurgardens all last year. One year on Logans wing and maybe he is ready to swap with LC.

Maybe Pavelski will want to come back, we know he loves SJ and also Tom Holy who is now Assistant GM to Mike Grier. He is still close with Logan, Hertl and Timo as well. I put him on the 2nd line for this season and perhaps can slot down and switch with Coe or Gushchin in the next season. I'll bet he'll still be good for 20+ goals next year.

Labanc packaged with Kniazev who is a solid puckmoving D prospect. Labanc might have a bounceback year and might be worth keeping but he also might use a change of scenery. He is very skilled, just needs the right chance with the right guys.

Gushchin is our most offensively talented prospect outside of Bordeleau and Eklund but Gush is the most pure sniper in the depth chart. He plays defense, backchecks, works hard, plays tenacious, all the things that Quinn and Grier preach he does in spades. Getting a chance to flourish with Hertl and Meier would be fun to watch.

Coe might even make the team this year, he is our most unheralded prospect. He's big, skates well, strong shot, solid 2-way game and has leadership qualities.

You need to think of productive, original comments. This is all you do on Sharks posts. You sir, are a troll.

I actually have very constructive conversations with shark fans on here and most of them agree. Your team has been dragging this out for soooo long. Trust me, I've seen my team through the dark days. It stinks, but you have to know when and not put it off.

The Rangers saw the writing on the wall and made the smart move. CHI put it off, made bad decisions and is now a disaster.

You really thing Pavelski has 3 more years in him? He certainly had a good year but you're talking about signing him next year for two years. That seems quite hopeful.

If Labanc rebounds SJ probably wants to keep him. If he doesn't, not sure he is worth ARZ's 3rd even coupled with Kniazev, or at least the current value seems off.
Sad to see Barb go but hell yes if Pavs returns.. He'll be like 39-40 at that point though?

I think he wouldn't mind ending his career in SJ and I think the Sharks would be more than happy to have him. Has shown no signs of slowing down to date.

Pavelski might be a mutant. He's 38, put up 81 points and has barely missed a game in years. I know he signed this extension, but I have to think if he decides to keep playing he's going somewhere he has a real chance at a cup. I'm sure he'll hit the wall at some point, but at this point I wouldn't be shocked he if he plays into his 40's. He has health on his side.

He looked like he was slowing down his first year in Dallas than bounced back the last two.

He also did have a weird career trajectory where he was good until about 29 (read 25-30ish goals 60-65 ish points) then at 30-34 became a 35-45 go scorer and ppg player. I totally thought he was just another in a long list of joe Thornton being a godly set up man creations but he has kept it up. So maybe I should bet against father time and for him

On that note I see you are a Bruins fan by your logo. The other guy with that trajectory is Marchand. Again a good but not special top 6 winger through his mid to late 20s. Then signs for term and explodes into like a top 8 offensive talent in the league. Perfect timing for Bruins management on that extension

That is definitely a Pittsburgh Penguins logo lol. They did have perfect timing on that extension.

Pavelski was only with Thornton for a couple years. Don't know where you get your stats but he is a 12 time 20 goal scorer and has been good since his 2nd year. For a 7th round pick that is very impressive. He is also massively popular in San Jose, a super strong culture driver and leader. Nothing you can say is going to change my mind...This is Joe Freakin Pavelski, Sharks legend.

We've got 17 (seventeen) NHL forwards right now. Eighteen if you count Marchenko coming in. The odds of us paying for another forward rental are very very low.

So sorry I don't have everyone's roster count in front of me at all times. No need to type 17 twice, I can read kiddo.

That was more making it clear that I wasn't tpyoing the number. And, shockingly enough, it's not all that hard to look up a roster. This very site provides useful tools for doing just that.

I think Pavs ship has sailed, I'd hope Ozzy would be ready and slotted in the top 9 RW by then.

I can see Ozzy being a 3rd liner someday but I do think he needs substantial development before becoming pro.
