Buffalo, Detroit, Ottawa and Montreal. Great job leafs coming out of that sensational division.

Only 4 (or 3) teams make the playoffs bud. And you had a losing record against the entire division, including Buffalo, Detroit, Ottawa and Montreal. I fail to see your point . It’s irrefutable that the Atlantic was a tougher division than pacific, by a considerable margin. Main evidence is that best team in the pacific division Had a LOSING record vs Atlantic

I don't know if the Oilers are a lock. A long term injury to McDavid and you will be hard pressed to make the playoffs. Campbell gets hurt or plays like he did in the 2nd half of last season and you will struggle. The Oilers are 1 or 2 injuries away from being a bottom 3rd team.

imagine talking about an injury to the best player in the league, now that's low. I don't wish a long term injury upon anyone no matter the player. Get a life man.

This is an interesting narrative, but it doesn't stand the light of day. Here are Edmonton and Colorado's 1st & 2nd round opponents:

Edmonton
1. LAK: 99 points
2. CAL: 111 points

Colorado
1. NAS: 97 points
2. STL: 109 points

So Colorado's route to the Conference Finals was in fact easier than Edmonton's. Does that somehow lessen the accomplishment? I don't think so.

Colorado, spanked everyone and didn't have a tough series until the final. Because the west in general is so much weaker than the east. Calgary was a mirage team.

you do realize the central is just as weak, if not weaker.. right?

Say what? Colorado had a winning record vs all the divisions. As did all the top teams. It’s only the oil and pacific in general that posted losing records vs other divisions. Irrefutable; Pacific is weak

are you still going on about the regular season? dude who cares, the oilers made it further and that's a fact. Nothing Edmonton could've done about it, and there's nothing Toronto can do about it. want me to email bettman and tell him to align the divisions from hardest to easiest so you stop pouting?

Smith in Net
Game 1 .760
Game 2 .900
Game 3 .929
Game 4 .857
That is a .861 average, which is worse than an AHL goalie

Francouz .911 through the Edmonton series. If you cant see the difference between Francouz .916 average and .861 Smith in the series.
Just checked my math again. It is good.

Wait…you’re going to ignore Koskinen who had a 0.952 sv% in mop up duty. Or the score could have been 12-6.

Not sure I’m following your argument - even though you were badly out shot and out chanced (with the exception of game 3 when you lit the lamp twice despite major advantage in hdc neutral ) and the goalie stats series wide were very close - you lost b/c of Mike Smith? Why did your coach of the year in waiting keep playing him then ? Come on - oil were badly outclassed and swept, end of story.

unfortunately you can't judge the oilers playoff series when you have never even witnessed Matthews past the second round.

You’re the best tears of joy . You go on and on about how great the oil are, and how terrible the leafs are - but when someone points the irrefutable fact that you benefit greatly from playing in a weak division and that when the two teams actually play each other (reg season only b/c that’s how the league works), we destroy you…your comeback is to email Bettman squinty smile . You make me laugh.
I’ll end it that both teams are good with great players , but leafs are better

Lol what a dumb response. Perhaps you should read that again. Never did I say I hope anyone gets hurt. The point was, a long term injury to McDavid would absolutely wreck the Oilers. That in no way says I hope it happens. Whats low is your effort to clap back sir. It's about as low as one can get at this point.

rent freesmile Matthews gonna get a bag in AZ

Yeah the team without an arena or the ability to pay it's personal and players on time is going to afford Matthews. For a guy who loves the spotlight, a 3 thousand seat arena is definitely a draw. What a foolish statement.

Yes hopefully we will. Ceci was excellent for us last year. And Barrie was fantastic in the playoffs.

Barrie and fantastic is not two words that go together and Ceci being one of your best defenders says more about your team than it does his play.

You lost to the team that lost to the Canadians that same year tears of joy. Are you sure you’re ok?
I cannot defend the leafs playoff record, for sure - no one is happy or proud of it. But an Oilers fan chirping us squinty smile ?
You’ve literally won 3 rounds with Conor McDavid in the WORST division in the league (and missed the playoffs twice).

I guess you missed McDavid's injury in 2020, oilers did just fine without him, with a much worse roster. Unfortunately trying to view a team when their superstar is "hurt" is such a stretch that shouldn't be mentioned. Basing a teams performance off a players injury shouldn't be considered. bad take. No one is gonna back you up on that.

I've never seen so many spelling errors in a single paragraph. Woodcroft is a really good coach, and you seem to be the only person to think he isn't. Completely turned the oilers around, after he was hired they went 26-9-3 (2nd in nhl) with a .724 win % (better than the leafs)
Barrie, Ceci, and Hyman also all played substantially better after leaving the leaf's.

Oh really? Hyman played better? He scored at a slower pace than he had the two seasons before. But I am sure that math is too difficult to understand being shortened seasons and all. As for Ceci and Barrie, no they aren't better they are the same. They are bottom pair plugs. One can kill penalties half decently and the other is good on the PP but both suck at 5v5. You just don't have any good defenceman so they seem good.

oh my bad then, LA seems like a market for matthews, solid rebuilding team with a franchise center sounds appealing, you're sure toronto is go9nna be able to afford 15-16 million on one player? Unlikely.

Colorado is in the Central so they have 1 team that is so much better than everyone else in the west. It's not remotely close either. The rest of the west are at best bubble teams in the east. 8 of the top 9 teams in the NHL are in the east.

Matthews ain’t going anywhere; if I were you, I’d be more worried about 2 years later when Conor comes home to join the cup train. NO chance he stays in hinterlands when Centre of the hockey universe & hometown is calling cool

Hilarious how much 'former Leafs having playoff success in Edmonton' and 'McDavid envy' is getting Leafs fans panties in a knot. Love it!

Didn't he only miss like 6 games or something like that? I just checked, he missed 7. That's hardly a long term injury.

Again, beating weak teams in the weakest division in the weakest conference isn't anything to be proud of. The Oilers are a team that would struggle to win in the east

but they aren't in the east bro, get over it. We're in your head and I love it. Playoff win>regular season points.

Matthews will be a leaf for life. He even said he was totally interested in signing longer term but this was the compromise. Next summer he'll resign for a pile of cash and then the summer after when JT signs a much smaller deal, TO will sign McDavid after he leaves Edmonton.
